I would have had an older brother. He died shortly after birth. I would have been the middle child

Okie- I had just bought this condo (cause it was safe

) and was living by myself. I came home late one night and heard yelling. I thought this kid was in trouble and needed help, so I turned back to help him. Turns out he had a gun and wanted my purse. I asked if I could just give him my money as I really liked the purse and it's such a pain to get a new drivers license. He said okay and I gave him a whopping $14 and my debit card. Off he ran. I called 911 and stayed perfectly calm. I then called my sister and fell completely apart. Once I calmed down and got past scared it made me really mad. I was trying to help the little punk and he robbed me! On my front door step! :thun
By mutual consent we never told my parents. There was nothing they could do about it and it would only worry them. My mom is already pretty bad to play matchmaker with me and I was pretty sure it would mean she would step it up a notch.

So almost seven years later they don't know. I live out in the country now, own a shotgun and two big dogs. Sadly, I'm a little more suspicious of certain young men and I'm more careful when I'm out alone. You live and learn, I guess.

I'm 44 and DH is 40. Been married only 2.5 years, first time for both of us. We met via e-mail introduction letter from a friend of mine. I lived next door to them in UT, they moved to MT, met DH, told me they met the perfect man for me, but he moved back to CO. Then DH got them a job in CO, and we finally got together Dec 31. 2003. He invited himself to UT for New Years. We got married 6 months later.

I was a mechanical designer/(CAD drafter) for 17 years. Designed Control Valves.

I hate the corporate world. I consider it EVIL and unethical. DH hates it too and when he recently got fired for doing something he did not do. We decided to make our part-time business full-time and now do pasture maintenance. We aerate, overseed, fertilize etc peoples pastures. In the winter we do snow removal.

I hate snow removal.

I'm a ham radio operator.

I'm always designing or building something.

I hate cooking, cleaning, and other mundane household chores. I'd rather be in the shop. I've always told my mother I'd be prefectly happy living in a 5th wheel, if I had a huge garage to park it in. (I'd have to say heated garage now.)

My favorite vacations are when I get to go somewhere to learn how to do something. Last year I went to UT for a week to learn to turn wood.

I'm a control freak who hate to be told what to do, and DH is a control freak who likes to tell people what to do.

Hmm.. I'm so boring it's almost unnatural..

Up until last March I had no friends. Literally NO FRIENDS. Except my dh.. he's my best friend

Now I have one.

I tend to be very quiet and shy.

I write. I'd love to be able to draw. I hate the fact that at some point my kids will both be in school and I'll have to go back to work. I'm dying to get a college education and a CAREER.

I dropped out of high school, but then went to nightschool and worked full time. I got my diploma. It ranks up there as one of the accomplishments I'm most proud of. I had to work all day, change, then walk to school at night.

My psych professor in one of the few college courses I DID take told me I should think about a career in it. My English professor told me that I could write well enough to be published (but not research papers. LOL!)

My dh and I have been together for 8 years, and married for 4. He's younger than I am LOL! And I love to joke around about having a younger man.

Nothing too exciting. Oh, yeah and I'm a scruncher.. married to a folder!

Meghan

sorry.. I had to edit this. I remembered that anyone, anywhere can do a google search and pull up ANYTHING about ANYONE...

What an interesting topic...on this run to NYears.

Let's see... I am very shy...some may say reserved, but not really, it's shy.

My DH and I met while thru-hiking the 2000 mile Appalachian Trail. Got married at a lodge on "the trail."

I am an artist and writer. I LOVE art shows, craft fairs, plays...much to the chagrin of DH. (I forego them all as DH and his family consider them a waste of time.)

I RESPECT everyone possible. Cause I want them to treat me with respect.

I DO NOT RESPECT people who hurt other people or animals, with malicious intent.

I was on the US Lightweight Rowing Team, the year of the boycott. Elite rower for 7 years.

Called "one tough Indian" by people who know me.

Did I mention I am shy?

I LOVE my chickens. People look at me strangely when I mention them, but they are my little stress busters. I absolutely love em.

I never wanted kids (don't especially like them in a 24/7 kind of way), and never expected to get married. Got PhD studying interspecific interactions among pond critters, did several research postdocs, got faculty job in the SUNY system. Met Canadian guy online on a horsey listserv (EQUINE-L), ran into him in person at a big event, thought nothing of it.

Several years later (we don't even remember what year we first met in person!) started dating him. The nimrods in my department, who spent 110% of their time backstabbing and feuding, somehow wangled approval to split the biology department into two new departments, one with 6 people and one with 3. Saw the light. Got engaged, quit job (edited to add: a year before tenure decision!), moved to Canada, got married, mailed about three pounds of paperwork and a buncha money to Thunder Bay for immigration purposes.

Am now a 42 year old stay-at-home mother of two (age 3.5 yrs and 7+ months), happy to be dealing with LITERAL babies and LITERAL crap (both horse and chicken) instead of the academic versions thereof :> I am still not big on kids in general, but MY kids in PARTICULAR are the very most coolest things ever, go figure, and I wouldn't have missed them for the world

What else? I have a half-Lipizzaner horse (retired) and two Thoroughbreds, and trained horses and taught riding for a while during college and grad school and first postdoc. I took up ice skating as a college junior and had my axel, double salchow and most of the Silver USFSA dances by the time I graduated. I (rather than my husband) am the person in our family that builds and fixes things. My favorite food in the whole world is the turnip cakes from a good dim sum restaurant. My favorite cartoon is the late lamented Untalkative Bunny, which I would bet nobody else here has ever heard of.
