Tell your 'what the heck was that thing?' scary story

You know, I've wondered that myself. A religious person told me once that there are no such things as 'ghosts'. The things we think of as ghosts are actually Satan's minions. Since Satan is the father of lies, he and his minions mimic our loved ones. In a way, that makes sense, but then again, in some ways it doesn't. If all beings we think of as ghosts are Satan or his minions, then why are so many people comforted by them? I don't think Satan and comfort belong in the same being. So it's a mystery, just like the ghosts are

I don't want this to turn into a religious debate or whatever, but we are told that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So yes, I believe Satan and comfort can be in the same thing.

What I've been saying all along - Satan is a deceiver, there's no reason he and his troops can't be deceptively friendly. What better way to turn a person against Christianity than to appear to be something that clearly defies it?

Just my pet theory regarding ghosts. Other people have theirs, and I'm fine with that - I don't feel like getting into a metaphysical debate during Christmas break.

I'm going to get and read a book called God's Ghostbusters because the topic is so interesting.

Actually, the bible DOES talk about spirits/ghosts. I can't remember where, but it said that the dead visited their families.

I know it talks about Saul consulting a medium and talking to the dead, but he was killed for that.

@Little Lady - from my reading, it appears that it was strictly God's doing in the incident with Samuel's "ghost." The medium was likely accustomed to having demonic aid - plus, it was Old Testament law to execute mediums and spiritists. Why? They were playing God.

Let's not get in a religious debate, guys....That's a sure way to get a thread shut down.

I've been enjoying all the stories here and I would love to see this thread continued!

Well I have several stories, but one that pertains to chickens. So I was probably twelve and my dog had a kennal inside the chicken run. She had gotten out and had harrased the chickens so I put her back in the kennal on a chain. So about four nights later my mom is screaming at the bottom of the stairs saying my dog is trying to kill the chickens. So I get a flashlight and run out side, I hear something hit the fence and I shine my light at my dogs kennal. Their was a tall peach tree and a lilac bush infront of her kennal. But I could see her clearly she sat in her dog house shaking and whining. So I got the sense I needed to shine my light up and I did. Their on top of her pen was a shape, I couldnt see much beacause it was hidden by branches but it was the size of a german shepard and had the build of a cat. The dogs pen is about six foot high give or take, and we have cougars and smaller preditors in the area. But we live closer to town. I gennerally am not afraid of animals. Have been close to bears and such while hunting but as soon as this thing looked at me my blood ran cold and I was tripping over my self to get to the house. So i get inside and close the door and look out the little window to see if it followed me. So my mom comes up and asks what was wrong and I told her my dog was in her pen but their was something on top of it. So I go back out side and the thing is gone. So I hop the fence into the coop, and look around on the ground to see if any chickens are dead and I found nothing. So all of our chickens are in the hen house huddled in a corner along with our three ducks. So I go back out side and shine around and then I hear a thud. I turn around and trip over a dead hen. She was a white mutt hen but their was blood comeing out of two wounds on her neck. So I shine up into the big cedar thats in the middle of the coop and the thing jumps a hundred feet or so onto our roof turns and growls and runs off. So I check the chicken and its neck only has two puncture wounds both on top of the neck like a vampire bite. The blood was still warm so I wrapped it in a bag and tossed her. My mom came out and asked what all the noise was and I said its been quiet. But she says it sounded like something heavy had hit the roof. By then I have chills all up my arms and my hair is standing on edge. My mom walks into the garden and sees huge dog type tracks and blood from the chicken. She says uncomfortably a dog must have got the hen. But I didnt say anything about a dead hen to her. So I agreed quietly and we went inside.
