My little Silkie Roo went to his new home yesterday!
The girl was about my age and had 35 chickens! She said when she saw my post she was so excited because she had a group his age and she'd been wanting a Silkie forever. So I know he'll be spoiled.
I know giving away birds doesn't always end happily but I feel so lucky to have found homes for both my roos that I feel good about.
Especially my little Silkie man...he is just too sweet!
How is your silkie girl doing? How about your little girl? Did she handle his leaving alright? I seem to remember lots of tears when the other roo went.

I found this adorable recipe today. Actually it found me. I got it in an email. :)

My friend posted this on Facebook. Had to share it. Too funny!

We got an inch of rain yesterday with high winds. I was very lucky to not have had my car smooshed by a falling tree when I was babysitting. About a third of the tree went in the ice storm we had over the winter so I knew the rest of it would go soon. So glad I was dropping on of the twins off at tutoring when it went down. The trees are so weak here due to the drought, hard winter and all the winds. This was a Bradford Pear though. Kind of goes without saying it would be damaged. ;)
The photo looks blurry because it is raining so hard.

Trevor left for Hawaii today. :) I hope he and his grandpa have a good time. I'm sure his grandpa will drive him nuts, but Trevor will also learn about his great grandma (used to live where the Honolulu Zoo is now) and his great grandpa who was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the bombing. He was one of the first test pilots to use aircraft carriers. The family history is very interesting on that side of the family (dad's). It's sad Trevor's dad can't be along on the trip. He died 9 years ago....

She wasn't home, I did it before I picked them up.
I was upfront and let her know he went to a new home with lots of chickens to play with and she said "Really?? Aw man..." but no tears! She still has her "Blue" (the white Silkie). There were WAY more tears with Pan because she was there with us for the handover. But ice cream fixes everything

. Lol. Blue seems to be doing fine, but I haven't had too much time to watch her. I'll do that tonight. It's not as bad now because she's bigger and doesn't get picked on as constantly as she used to. She's even becoming sweeter, so she's growing on me. She's just not the brightest little thing..lol

I hope Trevor enjoys his trip. I'm sorry about his dad...

The good Lord has answered my prayers! I got a little over 3" rain last night and we are suppose to get some more tonight. I am so happy over this. I also got the wind. It knocked my corn down again. This time I am going to have Ken stand them back up. He can tamp the ground harder than me.

Ms Jellybean sorry about your Bradford Pear. Those trees are beautiful but aren't the strongest. I hope your son will enjoy his time in Hawaii. I am sure seeing the Pearl Harbor sights will be an eye opener for him.

Lisa :)

Not my tree. It belongs to the twins family. It was their favourite climbing tree though. They will miss it.

I am so glad you got rain! 3 inches? Wow! Did you get some flooding then too?

My corn kept blowing over last year. I decided if (that is a big if) I ever grow it again I am planting the seeds deeper. Once the secondary roots come out it doesn't tip so easily. It takes up so much space and the time window to pick it is incredibly short. I think I missed mine. The corn was kind of dry. It could be how I cooked it though - in the microwave. I still have some in the freezer.

We have some puddles around the yard. Nothing serious (yet).

In Indiana, it was my bush beans that would get knocked over. Here it is the corn. My poor corn...if it isn't getting the winds from the south it is getting the winds from the north. Last year it was so dry that what corn grew, the squirrels got! Errrrrrrrrrrr O well, I am still learning to deal with this weather and the dirt. I figure by the time I learn it, we will probably be moving again. :)

Move again? As long as you stay in Texas I guess it would be ok!

Lisa my wife and sister was down there in Richmond the past 2 days. Her oldest girl is in the state school there had some kind of meeting with the staff yesterday. I guess I could have come down and hung with you for the day.

We always say 'This is the last place time we move'.

Yes you should have. I was home all day. :( Maybe next time.

Hi, I'm new to this site and new to having chickens again. I use to have them years ago. My name is Paulette and I live in Palacios. My husband and I have been married 43 years. We have two daughters. The oldest is married, teaches school and has four children. Our oldest granddaughter just graduated from college and our oldest grandson is a 2nd year West Point cadet. The youngest two boys are in the 5th and 9th grade. Our youngest daughter still lives with us. She has Down Syndrome.
We had lots of rain last night and my coop got wet inside. It's on a concrete slab but the rain got under the wood and the shaving got a wet. I replaced them with dry and am hoping it won't rain again tonight even though we need rain bad. I enjoyed reading all the posts from beginning to end. Not sure how this site works but will try to keep up and post often.
