Texas BYC Cafe

Well this morning I see that my luck with chickens is going to be on par with the rest of things in my life are. About 6 weeks ago my picked up some chicks at Atwood that she said that they was EE. I said I did not think so but hay why not. Found out after we got home and showed pics on here they where gold sebright bantams so for then next week we went to Atwoods to add to the 2 we had gotten. We ended up with 6 chicks. This morning I am sitting watching them play in the brooder and it hit me out of the 6 I have 5 roosters and 1 hen. Yep my luck is right on par!!!

I am so sorry!

Lisa :)

I guess I haven't been on here for a few days. I had some catching up to do.

Welcome to the new people. :)

Congrats Lisa on the kitten. So cute! Hope Ken thinks so too. ;)

Crazy weather we are having. At least we are getting wet stuff. Still need lots more.

My tree broke yesterday. Nathan was very lucky it decided to fall into the street and not onto his car on the driveway.

The city was here to clear it away within 10 minutes. I hope I don't lose anymore of my trees.

Here is a healthy recipe I want to try. It sounds pretty good. I haven't ever tried quinoa but it sounds like it has a lot of health benefits to it.
That is crazy!! I am glad it fell in the street too!! City probably wouldn't have been so accommodating if it had fallen in your driveway or yard! lol

That is such a drag! What are your thoughts about the roos?

Actually they are. Last year a different tree fell into the yard. The tree is on city property so they cleared it out of my front yard for me. :) I like the city I live in.
Thinking of culling all 6 gold Sebright even the hen to give space for BCM
I was wondering if you would do that.

Awww too bad Harley!! They are pretty birds (just googled em), but if you wanting a different kind, better to get rid of them before you put more time and money into them. Maybe someone on BYC would want them? Then you wouldn't have to cull them, or maybe Craigslist?

I'm thinking one of my Barred Rocks my be a roo in the making. I thought I had one when they were chicks. One was lighter and had a different barring pattern. Now, this ones comb is a tad bigger, and he/she/it has larger waddles forming under the chin and the head looks a bit more red than the other two BR's.

@Ms Jellybean ~ So glad you didn't get any damage from the fallen tree!

Not much happening here. My chicken seems to be doing better. She looks funny almost tailless, but the other chickens aren't bothering her.

I went to Horaney's and got some Texas Naturals hen scratch for them on the way home from work yesterday. At first, they didn't know what to make of it. They've never had seeds before. I put some in their treat bowl, and the rest I tossed out onto the coop floor. This morning, there were craters everywhere! So I guess they are starting to get the idea what "hen scratch" is, LOLOL.

If someone on here wants the hen and one of the roosters I would be more then happy to give the pair to them. The others I will cull cause the way I look at it is I have put the money and time into them I should be the one to eat them. I don't think anyone would keep that many roo alive.

Awwwwww...I'd take the pair. I could test out the roo collar ;)
But thats a decent drive :/
I dont think anyone could blame you for eating them though. They are..Well..chickens!

I agree about the time & money. I was just thinking someone might be looking for a replacement roo for the bantams. There may not be much meat to eat, but should be pretty tasty. My Dad raised pigeons. Nothing better than a couple of squab on your plate. Beat chicken any day!!

If something comes up and I have to head to Dallas I will set it up to bring you 2 if you want. They are only 6 weeks old so they will be around for some time. We are thinking of going to canton on Saturday of that weekend. If we do would you like to meet us somewhere in Terrell to pick them up. Mmm I was just thinking I do that some times lol. I have a sister in law who lives in Terrell. I mite be able to get her to bring them back to Terrell when she heads back on Sundays. She comes down just about every Sunday to visit her mom. Let me know and I will check and see if she would do that.
