Now that really hurt.

Here goes:

1 dozen eggs. Aren't they cute? The 4 large ones are from Lena (Australorp, from last flock). The rest are from my 21 wks. old pullets. We know the little ones have yolk in them. How much would you sell them for? Or do we wait until they get bigger?

This is what is going on at my house last week and this week. We are getting a metal roof put on the house and garage. Our roofer is patenting his idea. He is putting radiant barrier (silver) down first after removing all the shingles. He then crisscrosses with slats. The metal roof will go on last. The crisscross slats will help the air flow under the roof. This in turn will keep the attic cooler and hopefully the A/C will not run as much. We shall see if it works.

Did I pay my penance? Did I put enough pictures on for you all?

Lisa :)
Lisa, it looks good!! Anything for a lower AC bill, that is for sure!
I'd actually take out the smaller eggs, and replace with bigger ones and sell for 3$ or 3.50. Just depends on the market. I sold mine for 3$ at my school, and will continue to do so. My richie friends will pay 3.50 because that is what they pay at HEB (or more).
Good pics!!

I used to mark my baby chicks with different color tie wraps. Then after 2 mos, I had to change new tie wraps as their leg shank getting bigger. Then when they are 4 mos, I applied wing bands prior to turning them loose on the yard. There was times I failed to monitor their growth and they could not walk when the tight bands blocked the circulation on their legs.

Well, the pain is over, I finally ordered some spiral leg bands and some number/color bandette leg bands. Enough to use and re-use for al babies for ... 5 yr plan.

Neat idea on the roof. I have always liked metal roofs. My new roof is helping keep the house cooler too. :)
As far as the eggs go, I would wait until they get bigger.

Um...this is a chicken board. I don't see any pictures of your chickens!! Lol

Roof idea sounds neat! Good luck with it!

Just what I was thinking. You need to post some chicken pics Lisa. :)
Why didn't he use my house for experiment?

I was thinking about using those. Let us know what you think about them.

We are supposed to get rain today. If you call 30% chance supposed to. :) There is rain on the radar.... I didn't go riding this morning because of that. It probably won't rain now.... Later in the week looks better and so do the temps. I am liking this summer. Way better than last year.

Hope everyone has a good week.

MAN, you guys are sure picky today! My poor poor flock think they are being abused. I have to keep them penned up while the roof is going up. They are NOT happy. I let them out toward the end of the day when the crew packs up.

Texas Lisa, you will be delighted with the heat barrier. My neighbor put that under his metal roof, the difference is astounding.
That is good news!

HUNG: We still have to pay even if it experimental. How come you mistreat your chickens???

Lisa :)

Is anyone getting rain today? It's getting dark here and sure does look like it could rain. I sure hope it does!

I was on The Chicken Chick's site today. She has a lot of great articles to read.

Looked like it was coming from the panhandle. I haven't checked to see if we'll get anything substantial.

It got so hot yesterday, I made the girls electrolytes for their water. Everyone did ok!
Pearl did follow me in the house this morning. And Ava was trying last night. I think they felt the AC...

Hey gang! Busy here the last few days. We went to Galveston over the weekend. Took my granddaughter for her birthday to the beach. The beach was nasty with all the seaweed, but she had fun anyway.

We took her to the aquarium at Moody Gardens.

We went there with the kids when it first opened up several years ago. Most of the damage from Hurrican Ike has been cleaned up, but everything is way more expensive now. It's not somewhere I would want to go often.

While we were gone, the chickens starting laying 8 eggs a day! My mil came and checked on them and I let her keep the eggs she got. Of course when we got back on Sunday, I only got 5 eggs. :( But today I got 8!

It was thundering and lightening yesterday evening. We never got any rain, but it did cool down some. Hope we get some this week. Sure do need it.

@Brookshire11 ~ Keep checking on that water bill. They may say it's on your side of the meter, but make them prove it!

@Ms Jellybean ~ Good idea to take the rest of the hot summer off from painting. You don't want to get too hot out there. I had a sun stroke a few years ago. Now I have to watch when I'm out in the sun. Puts a damper on a lot of things. I like that tray you got your mom! I bet she will just love it!!!

@lovingmyhens ~ I hate waiting too! But, I am getting better at it!

@Baymule ~ Welcome! I live in Tatum and go to Tyler fairly often. I have a mix of chickens, Aussies, Orps, BRs, SLWs & EEs. We lived in a double wide for a few years, then built the house we're in now. We just got tired of leaving every time a storm came up. I've got a little garden up, doubt I'll have time to do a winter one. My summer one is just now putting out! LOL

@hungnguyen ~ I saw a lot of ships in Galveston. I don't think any were chicken ships!

You'll like the leg bands. We used them when I was a kid. Daddy would put them on the chickens and use the smaller ones for his pigeons. We raised racing pigeons.

How's little Charlie doing?

@TexasLisa ~ You posted egg pics, I figure that counts as baby chickens!! Love the roofing idea. Looks like it should help with the cooling. We are planning on putting a metal roof on ours when it comes time to re-shingle. Let me know how it works.

@harley1975 ~ We do need updated pics of your babies. They grow so fast!

@A1momof3 ~ How's it going out your way? Check back in once you get a chance!

Hope everyone has a great day!
