Texas

I have the tubing type mister i had it hanging high maybe about 6 feet tall and it worked fine but i decided to move it because i added a few more feet to the run so now it is hung about 4 ft from the ground and the mist falls perfectly. I see the girls actually standing under it they really like it. I turn it on about noon and leave it on until about 8, i am sure when it starts to cool down i won't need it as much.

Hello fellow Texans! I live in Santa Fe, TX; south of Houston, near Galveston. I just posted an intro in the New Members section ( https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=388581 ) so I guess I don't need to repeat everything here. I don't have my chickens yet, but hope to within a few weeks. I'm starting out with just 3 and want to add more. I am interested in Buff Orpingtons, Australops, Wyandottes, Barnevelders, Welsummers, Speckled Sussex, Ameraucanas... to name a few. Does anyone know of any good breeders around the area or should I just go with a hatchery? I'm not planning on showing, these will just be backyard chickens.

I see I missed the last meet up, maybe I'll make it to the next one.

Welcome Zookyla!
Congratulation on your soon-to-be arrivals!
I am just a beginner too and can't help you with your breeder question but just wanted to say welcome and hello!

BTW, does anyone know how to re-set the time on the forum... my computer clock is correct but the forum times are way off.

Welcome, Carolyn!

I don't personally have anything against the hatcheries, if you don't want to go to show, which i don't. If you want real Ameraucanas, you'll probably need to find a breeder, but the others i think you could get at a hatchery. You might check with your local feed store and see if they know about local breeders. They tend to. The folks i know about are quite a drive from you. I'm an hour north of Houston. You could probably get them with more ease someplace closer to you.

I have gotten a lot of chicks from feed stores, who usually order from Ideal hatchery.

If you go to a swap, just be careful about quarantining, so you don't accidentally infect your flock with something.
