Texas

I don't know where SAKim is but if they have another one and it is within a reasonable distance of Tomball I'll be there.
As it is everyone I know just thinks I'm insane with all my chicken talk. BTW I have 25 hens almost ready to start laying (I hope) they are almost 4 months.

Hi bearing...what kind of chickens do you have? Let us know when you start getting eggs! The meet up i spoke about that was memorial day weekend was held in San Marcos. Keep watching here, i am not sure if it is held once a year or maybe twice?

Thanks for asking. You are the first one who has asked
I have 2 Buff Laced Polish, 2 Black Polish,2 Golden Penciled Hamburgs,2 Buff Minocas,2 Cuckoo Marans, 2 Silver Spangled Hamburgs, 6 New Hampshire Reds, 7 Pearl White Leghorns almost all very mild mannered except the Buff Minorca they are a bit rambunctious, almost no bullying seems to take place.
It seems each breed and individual bird is cuter than the next in one way or another.
I have just yesterday figured out how to post a picture on my page so I put a few of the coop will put more in soon of chickens and coop.

I think I first sent this to mailer? rather than as a reply still trying to figure all this out.

Hello Ya'll,

There is a show in Lagrange, TX on September 4. If you search Texas it should come up as one of the first listings. I'll find it again and post something to try and bump it onto the main page.

Texasgal My husband is very impressed that there is a rooster named Shiner Bock and I love your story!

Glad to finally find the Texas thread!!!

Bearing1 that is a great coop:D

Bearing...

I agree with Lauri... that is a beautiful coop. There is no way anyone would ever guess that it was your first attempt at building - it looks like a person could live in it!
I love your selection of chickens, it must be so much fun to watch them all running around together. I have 10 little mutt-silkies and sometimes I wish I had mixed it up a bit and had more variety.

I have never even seen a Poultry Show (Big or Little) . Does anyone know what a Backyard Show is? Maybe that is a show for my little mutts?

hmmmm... so where is LaGrange?

ooooh, I just looked up LaGrange and it is close to me!
My husband said he will take me to the County Fair.

If anyone is wondering LaGrange is kind of in the middle of the San Antonio, Houston and Austin triangle.

To all, thank you for the nice remarks about my coop it was several weeks of work.
I designed it as well as built , there are some special features like the people door slides open, the coop chicken door is automatic, the end shutters open and close, the feed and waterer are on sliding runners to allow for easy filling and slide in to keep out of the weather, outside access for egg gathering, water and electric at coop with battery backup, linoleum under wood shavings inside, the coop is 27" off the ground so they have plenty of space under the coop it is partially insulated at least on the east and west sides for now, There is an opening to the rear that allows for easy clean out when needed the wheel barrel will fit under the opening. My engineering background forced me to do all this. Most of my friends have only one remark. "Isn't it a bit over engineered?" they just don't understand
I will add many more detailed pics. soon as I can. I work for Bp in Trinidad and will be retiring in a very short time. My chickens need me.
It seems I am the reverse of most of you as it is my wonderful wife of 35years that put up with this obsession about chickens, seems most chicken people are the ladies and the husbands either share or put up with the chicken madness.

SAKim,

You're quite welcome. I just happened to come across it this week as a matter of fact. When I saw people talking about chickenstock I thought this might be the next best thing. Anyway, hope I can talk the dh into going...lol (I've gone to enough gold prospecting meetings that he should be pretty cooperative).

Sorry but I don't know the first thing about backyard shows (this is the first time I've had chickens since I showed them in high school)but I guess we'll all find out...
