Texas

So exciting, Lisa!!!

Heavy heart hearing about the rough road some have been given. :'(

More storms today says the newsman.
Be safe everyone!

My morning enjoyment...

Bikerschick that is so adorable! That is a nice plush yard you have! I can't wait to see my Momma hen and her chicks walking around.

Lisa :)

Closely mown weeds do look nice after the rain... hehehe
Thanks though. :)
Free ranging has meant that they don't manage to kill off any particular area anymore. But I do have problems not getting ticked when they scratch around the edges of the walkways... I've got a bunch of bare dirt spots now... ugh!
***Hmmm... maybe astroturf...***

You should see parts of our driveway! It looks like we have been bombed or else they are building foxholes!! I go outside to check on them and they are laying in the foxholes. All you can see are their heads. It still gives me a 'start' because sometimes it looks like they are dead.

Good Morning everyone!

Was super busy at work the last 2 days and just got all caught up. Stelle im so glad you are safe! Yinepu looks like you dodged a bullet! I heard on the radio this morning that there were atleast 16 confirmed tornados in that area!

Kili, thanks for showing me your feeder! that is exactly what i have in mind to ATTEMPT to make, lol!

those of you that posted pics, they all look great! @stelle, i hope your birds injury heals up nicely! (im doing this by memory so if i mix up names im sorry, hopefully you know who im tlaking about)

Its FRIDAY!!!! Im supposed to picking up a Bev Davis line BCM from Little Wing this afternoon! Pretty excited about that!
They are Bev Davis stock from H&H but they are not close enough to the SOP. Hopefully they will lay some dark eggs. I'm having a hard time finding good breeding stock for BCM.

Hahahaa! I have "foxholes" too... I say they are working on their dugouts.
I hate it! LOL. I'm always filling them in. Do it in the backyard... ok? But they all want to hop the fence and screw up my front lawn...
They are getting wise to the sound of me unreeling the hose...LMAO

I have close to 40 pure Cottage Hill Black Copper Marans running around that are 2-6 weeks old. A third of them are from my stock that I got two years ago. The rest are from two out of state sources (and I am supposted to get hatching eggs from two more breeders with pure lines). I was very happy with the production of the pullets that we got from our pilot hatch from our flock we did last spring, but I only have one pullet from the group that is "close enough to the SOP" and every little imperfection stands out like a red flag to me so yes...I have a hard time finding good breeding stock too. I now have a great breeding partner out of state that swapped stock with me this year (the source of 25 of my 40 chicks) and we plan to do more swaps in the furture so I am happy with that arrangment as I think we will both push each other to breed the best stock. Neither of us show many birds, but we both are focused on production and egg quality and cull per the SOP.

H&H is a great resource I got hatching eggs from April a year and a half ago. I didn't keep anything from her line though.

I spent lots of time and money trying to get my Black Copper Marans to SOP, but everyone of the males ended up with white tail feathers. I finally gave up and started a dark egg project with them. I'm in the first phase and can hardly wait on the chicks to grow and start laying.

Good Morning Texans!

StelleKitten, again I am sorry for the loss of Koda. What a beautiful pup he was. I like the walls on your house also.

I have some exciting news: I went to let my girls out and to check on Stretch, my setting hen. I was watching her turn the eggs and I noticed one of them has pipped. I am going to be a Chick Mom for the first time!!!

Ooo! Can't wait to see the pictures of the babies! That is the part I love the most. Seeing exactly what you get. And then watching them grow! Those are great times.
