got a broody question...
my yokies have a dz eggs in their nest but 2 hens, my silkie has 6, and my game had 6 now only one cuz I got impatient.
what signs should I be looking for to spot one of them going broody?
dood, im thinkin we will be there! how old is your son turnin, and what does he like? and would ya want us to bring yall a couple more pullets?lol
Mine growled like a dog when I reached underneath them to get the eggs. They also flatten out and kinda zone out. Take her off and watch to see how much she fusses and how quickly she goes back to the nest, if she goes almost right back to the nest, growls and flattens out she is probably broody.

Morning all. (this isn't really chicken related)
So, last Tuesday I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. They don't know what really causes Bell's Palsy, but people who have had flu/pneumonia/under a lot of stress tend to get it more easily than those who haven't. Well, I've had the flu earlier this year, pneumonia twice and just recovered from the last bout of it two weeks ago, and now Bell's Palsy. It's where one side of the face is temporarily paralyzed due to the nerve being inflamed or restricted. The pain is so horrible and the doctors don't know when it will heal. I have to be patient. They have me on steroids, but I've already been on steroids 4 times this year from the previous ailments so I've gained so much weight from those things! Anyhow, I'm supposed to keep myself "de-stressed" as it helps the inflammation go down in the nerve receptors. But, how does that happen when you're in constant pain and can barely, eat, drink, and cannot blink? Even through it all, I have The Lord, my dear husband, my sweet daughter, my friends, and my chicken children! Going and sitting on one of the tree stumps in the run is so relaxing feeding the girls and snuggling with the few who like to snuggle. Anyhow, prayers are appreciated. Patience is a virtue!
Wow what a tough time to go through. Sending prayers your way, from my family to yours

wow...did they all hatch?
I think 13 hatched.

I have a Lav Ameraucana hen setting on 7 eggs right now. Had a Leghorn try to go broody a few days ago . I thought they didn't do that. Seems like the hens have cut way back on laying since those two started going broody. Anyone else notice that?

Good luck with your hatch.

none of mine are doing that at all!
can I make one go broody? or 2?

need to find a rent-a-broody... they used to be everywhere but ever since the economy went so did they! lol

on a better note I started up a client list for yard eggs! lol I never would have guessed that people still like fresh eggs! lol
the feed store buys them and in turn sells them for like double!!!

Just filled the run with a teuck load of lawn clippings today! Chickens are in heaven! Cleaned and washed the brooder out today, and the babies are doing well in the coup! Im just about 110% i got a cuckoo maran roo out of the 3 "pullets" chicks i bought. Still only have 2 layers...i need the rest to start! Still waiting on OE, brahma, 2 EE's...then i have some slw's due to start by end of summer, then my BO's and Marans which are about 12 weeks or so old now.

Plus my polish hen but im not expecting her to lay anyyime soon as is.
