Can anyone give me any good rated breeders for silkies, yokohamas, araucanas, leghorns, egyptian fayoumis, black sex links, dominques, game, crevecoeurs, minorcas? I want to try and get some hatching eggs, and I have never ordered any before.
OK years ago I had chickens and never had any problems with them laying and having babies, we moved down her in the winter of 09 and that summer we got some baby wyndotts and I found a lady that had a mama chicken,we went out to her place with the babies and put them under her brought her home and she raised the babies with no problem. I lost a few from the coyotes and hawks along the way. The mama we bought was one that we lost but it was way after the chicks had grown up, anyway non of the chickens ever got broody. I ended up buying a couple of orphington and two amercanas, lost one of my amercans to a puppy that came from who knows where, I was so mad I could have shot the puppy but didn't because I wasn't sure if it had really got my girl but when I went out in the pasture there she was, by that time the puppy was gone and never seen it again good thing or he wouldn't be here. So about two weeks ago my orphington got broody I thought she was getting ready to by the way she was acting, she would fluff her feathers when the guineas would bother her like she was trying to protect her babies but she didn't have any. When she stayed on the nest I new she was broody and I didn't have a rooster so I went and bought two black copper marans pullets and 8 eggs put the eggs under her and she keeps breaking them now I'm down to two eggs. I have hay in the nest box so just don't know what is happening. I will be Lucky if I get one baby out of those eggs. How do they sit on 15 eggs and not break them? I think what I will do is try and get some more maran chicks if I can find them and put them under her when it is time for them to hatch. How many eggs can you put under a broody hen???
Morning all. (this isn't really chicken related)
So, last Tuesday I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. They don't know what really causes Bell's Palsy, but people who have had flu/pneumonia/under a lot of stress tend to get it more easily than those who haven't. Well, I've had the flu earlier this year, pneumonia twice and just recovered from the last bout of it two weeks ago, and now Bell's Palsy. It's where one side of the face is temporarily paralyzed due to the nerve being inflamed or restricted. The pain is so horrible and the doctors don't know when it will heal. I have to be patient. They have me on steroids, but I've already been on steroids 4 times this year from the previous ailments so I've gained so much weight from those things! Anyhow, I'm supposed to keep myself "de-stressed" as it helps the inflammation go down in the nerve receptors. But, how does that happen when you're in constant pain and can barely, eat, drink, and cannot blink? Even through it all, I have The Lord, my dear husband, my sweet daughter, my friends, and my chicken children! Going and sitting on one of the tree stumps in the run is so relaxing feeding the girls and snuggling with the few who like to snuggle. Anyhow, prayers are appreciated. Patience is a virtue!
