Need help, what kills a chick but does not break through the wire.  This is the second time, neck is broke and the 5 week old chick is wet looking.  Should have taken pics but did not.
A coin will reach in, grab it, and either break its neck or... Kind of graphic... Rip it's head off. I've had it happen years ago. Caught the sorry little sucker on a game camera. Snake could also do it like the others said.

Dang autocorrect. Coins don't kill chickens, but COONS do.

I agree its a chicken snake, need to put wire mesh all around inclosure (at least 5ft tall) or move the little one inside. He WILL be back. I've even made a special pen just for chick until they are 8 weeks old. I also put 2 golf balls in each nesting box. Because if he can't get the chicks he'll get your eggs. That way they can't get though the chicken wire and I can take care of them as they try to steal my eggs
Don't use moth balls cause they will harm your chicks, snake-way is only good until the next rain. Good luck hope this helped

I caught a chicken snake once that got through the chicken wire but couldn't get back out because he was swollen with eggs.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Hmmm, never thought of a snake. The last one this happened to was last year, no other problems, then it just happened again. that would explain why the the head and neck were all wet. Dang supper bummed about this one dying. Just lost my other girl, now this.....
