No they weren`t. They were just to stupid to hide in the chickenhouse.They got wet and cold and might got pushed around by the wind.
Were they Silkies? I see your avatar is a Silkie. When I was away for a few weeks in June, my son didn't get the 3-month old Silkie chicks inside before they got wet in a huge rainstorm. He put them to bed in a deeply bedded pen in the garage but they were soaked. Five out of sixteen died overnight, even though they were huddled up together out of the wind and rain.
The Silkies don't seem to be able to fluff up their feathers when they get wet--they just seem to pack down. Without air space in the down, they have no insulation.
