That is a decent size egg. I might let him go ahead and get his peacock but he will need to fence the yard in first so we do not get any dogs up in the area they will be in. I Hate to have to let them stay in a coop all the time.
This spring I would like to redo my coops just do not like the way they are looking. And want to have a few different pens for different breeds, an area where I can put my rooster and hens in for when I want to breed a certain types for a few of my husband friends from the Trade days that sell birds, for them to have chicks to sell or the eggs.

And a nice brooder house to have the babies in as well. Big dreams I know but I think I can do it. LOL

Well mine are penned and I have read, this is not the gospel because I am not the Pea expert, that if they are grown you have to keep them penned for a long time so they know where home is or they will leave. My hen got out the first week and went down the street to the cemetary, all woods. She was gone for 3 days. I finally made him yell, and she came back.

OH really? How long do you think they should be penned up for several months? Guess I need to read up on them and see what coop size they need, feed, care ect before he brings them home sense most likely I will be the one to tell him the right way to do things LOL. I think he was hoping to get them home, pen up for a few weeks and then let them roam around the property LOL
Yard needs to be fenced in first before I will let that happen.
thanks for the info.

Daddykirbs! (Edited- I always mess these things up!)

Congrats on the peacocks -and everything else! Wow! Wish I could have some more. I had a pair 25 years ago, but marauding dogs ran them away from home before their first breeding season. DH says "Not no, but heck NO!" He can't stand the noise. I think they remind me of Panama -and I like them!

15 out of 20 baby American Buffs hatched for me this week. Not bad for cold weather eggs. My girls lay in the night and sometimes we just can't pick them up before the cold zaps the fertility right out of them.

Hey! I'm in Cypress (NW corner of Houston). Just got my first little flock of chicks on 2/23/11. They are growing so fast! Anyone else in this area? And do you know of a poultry Vet? I'd like to get one lined up before I need one as my vet at Cypress Rosehill Vet Clinic says they don't do poultry.
