Texas

Hey yall! I'm in Magnolia Texas and don't remember if I've ever posted here or not! LOL -- that's my oldtimer's showing!

I have a Banty hen flock: 1 Dark Brahma (Shy), 1 Blue Silkie (Smokey), 1 lighter gray Silkie (Bandit), & 2 Lavender Ameraucanas, as yet unnamed. I also have 2 10-day old Lavender Ameraucana chicks (as yet unnamed AND unsexed).

Right now I'm getting only 1 egg per day from "someone" (I think it's Shy) but NOT from the Ameraucanas. Hope they pick up soon!!

Well HOWDY!!! Welcome from Rosenberg! We are the forum of enablers. Bwhahahahahahahaha (I had to get that out of my system)

Lisa :)

I just spoke to a breeder (the one near Bonham) and if things go well money-wise for me I can get her to hatch out all the chicks but the Light Sussex I want in May. Right now that seems like a really big IF. [[[sigh]]]

I have some questions on my coop design so I will be posting them later, along with a visual aid. :p

Is this afternoon dragging by for anyone else?

I haven't posted much as I got 6 TSC chicks 3 weeks ago and we have frantically worked on our coop. But I've read and lurked and have learned so much from all of you! Our coop's interior is camo because we added it to our shed which is made to blend in the woods. It looks like our chicks are camo' days as well because they match the bedding made with pine shavings and leaves. But see second pic of on of my girls wing. Sometime after the first few days I noticed her wing being droopy, but she continued to be spunky and active and eats well. She just doesn't flap or fly like the others. I'm thinking if she doesn't hurt or isn't picked on, she can enjoy life with the girls and lay eggs, etc. what do y'all think?

That looks like a split wing. It is a conformation fault, but shouldn't affect your bird. It shouldn't be used for breeding. Yes, split wings are a bit droopy.

Here is an article where it discusses split wings with photos.

These girls are just for eggs, so I'm not going to breed her. I didn't see the link for the article but would be interested of you could attach it. Thanks!

The new chicks are taking to their new home they ate and drank some water now they are resting. I guess they made the trip here without any problems!! Now to build them their on coop and run outside. And yes they are inside the house for a few days. The wife is already starting to name them. What to do what to do with her.
