Texas

I met a lady at the feed store today who kind of made me think of myself in 20yrs. She was shopping for over-sized waterers and feeders, which prompted me to ask her how big her flock was. She said she had 40 chickens & 18 chicks. I told her about my little flock & she asked if I was in the market for more. I told her I was just learning the ropes and planned on waiting a little while before acquiring more feathered friends. Then we joked about how the old saying, "breeding like rabbits" should be changed to, "breeding like chickens".

She'd started with a handful & they just got out of control on her. Oops! I told her I planned on having only females for as long as I can...and that if I decide to breed 'em, I'd want to be prepared for all that entails.

Lol I could end up that way with geese.they have such different personalities! But chickens? Nah, extras become dinner! :drool

Anyone know where to get some barley seed near Irving/Dallas area?

I've found that it's been a special order item. I have a feed store in Terrell that will do special orders but not all feed stores will. Since Southwest Feed Mill shut down, I have found a dearth of grains other than regular mixed feed stuff.

The ducks seem content. When I offered them some laying crumble and calcium they went nuts for the calcium. So glad I got a bag and offered it to them. They are also gaining confidence in their new home. I don't think it will take long before they are completely at ease here.

Did you get an egg at all today?

Nope. I think we know who our layers were/are...they're at your house.
