The game warden will tell you to seek the help of the sheriffs office. Do so. Do it so much they want you to stop calling. Do the same with your local animal control. Its not a wild animal, game warden can't help.

That's what happened to me at least. Every area is different. Personally I'd shoot the dogs if they even looked cross at my chickens. I've done it many times before.

The game warden told me to call animal control. Animal control told me "we aren't respected as law enforcement, call the sheriff, they have a team that handles this stuff." sounded strange, animal control should handle animal calls, but ok I called the sheriff. The sheriff lady knew exactly who I was talking about, said she has gotten numerous call about him. Said animal control was full of crap and was just too lazy to do their jobs. Also said that while she would go check it out and talk to the guy nothing would happen because the case of animal abuse would stall at the district attorney office. They want the big cases like homicide, rape, etc. So in the end nothing would happen. I enformed her I had livestock and would shoot the dogs and she said that is my right to defend my livestock on my property.

So I am back to square 1, except now that jerk might figure out who called on him this time and come gunning for my family and animals. Me and my dang bleeding heart, trying to save a pregnant dog. I should have just done nothing, shot the dogs and then called the sheriff to pick up the body and write a report.

What county do you live in?? That is sooo rediculous, them passing the buck like that. Have the dogs actually done any damage or harm to you or you property. If so you can file a complaint, and they will have to follow up. I know these people are the type to retaliate, but it sounds to me, unless some little kid gets mauled by one of the dogs, nothing will get done. See if you can get your neighbors involved. If you can do this, they will have to listen to y'all, if they want to keep their jobs. If I can help, I will. We had problems like this in the past, when I lived in a "neighborhood", and I got some of the neighbors to go to city hall with me, and they stopped what they were doing, and listened, when they saw we were serious about firing them.Remember, those folks work for us, not the opposite. I really mean it when I say, I will help if need be.

I wish, but I live in a neighborhood of mostly older people. People that don't want to rock the boat and draw attention to themselves. I and my husband are the youngest owing a home here so they will not listen to us. I already tried to just get them to call and complain, nothing. If they won't pick up phones, they won't drive to complain either. So I am gonna have to deal with it country style, shoot anything that comes after my livestock. Maybe after I shoot enough and have the sheriff haul all the bodies away they will get fed up and do something about it. Just so they don't have to write reports and cart dead dogs off my property.

Oh I live in Bexar county. And I don't blame the lady sheriff, she at least is doing what she can by going and checking things out. She will right her report and send it off, she is tired of dealing with this guy. But she says it always stops at the DA office every time. So yeah unless someone is bitten (and reports it this time) nothing changes.

Bad situation all around with those dogs and the owners. Yeah I know it's not the dogs fault but things tend to get complicated if you start shooting the owners. You actually have three options. You can just ignore it and hope that you, your family and your livestock don't get attacked. You can move away and hope that you don't encounter a similar situation somewhere else. Or you can shoot the dogs.

My grandmother had a similar situation involving the 30+ cats that her neighbor owns and attacks on her chickens. After several attempts to peacefully resolve the issue I started shooting cats. The neighbor is now down to 7 cats and if they don't learn to stop chasing the chickens I'll kill them as well.

I am NOT moving. I bought this house to be next door to my mother who has brain cancer. I'll take option 3, shoot'em all and let the sheriff haul the bodies away. They will hopefully run out of dogs eventually. I'll keep buying hollow point bullets for my 9mm and get my shotgun modified to contain the spread so I can use it as well.

It's always sad to have to go to that extreme. I don't enjoy putting down animals in the least, but you do what you must in order to protect your family, whether blood family or your furry/feathered family. Worse part is, the animals aren't at fault. It comes down to poor raising, but yet, they are the ones who must suffer the consequences.

I agree and that is why I have repeadley called about the dogs. Nothing changes, so I am forced to go that far. I wish I could at least pop the owner, but he isn't worth jail time. Of coarse he comes here threatening me or my family and all bets are off.

Just want to let you know that if he threatens you or your family or livestock make sure you do not respond back with threats yourself. Record his threats and then call the sheriff. If someone threatens you it is called a terrorist threatens they will go to jail. My son in law did a year for threatening his boss. All you need to do is stay calm and record it or have witnesses other then family.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You don't need to deal with a clueless neighbor as well. I think you're dealing with it the best way. You've made reports and you know your rights in regards to protecting family (furry, feathery, and human) and property.

Nice! I'll dig up my voice recorder I used to use recording lectures in college! Thanks a lot for the tip!

Umm, not nice about your son in law, I am sorry for that. But this guy is mean. I went to talk to him once. As soon as I said your dogs, he started waving his arms, screaming, and puffed up and advanced towards me in a very threatening manner. I have avoided him ever since. The recorder is a very good idea and I will find it and keep it next to my pistol.
