I am done trying to hatch eggs. I'm 99.9% sure the eggs that are suppose to hatch Wednesday are quitters. I think its my incubator. Out of 3 hatches of over 30 eggs each I had one hatch last time.

I spent a lot of $ on shipped eggs, plus over half the eggs each hatch were our own. I tried a dry hatch, believe it was a mistake in my climate, kept the humidity up...calibrated everything...

that totally sucks if you can afford to do so buy a good incubator my first time hatching really sucked i got bad eggs and my incubator is homemade so my first time i got no chicks but after i ran some tests, calibrated it and my instruments i hatched 5 healthy ducklings from 6 egg's in a Styrofoam cooler. just take some time to work out the bugs if you do decide to come back to hatching you will be glad yo did.

Maybe one of your girls will go broody?

It has not been a great Spring for incubators lol

I knew it wouldn't take long before The Ladies started laying. I think they're approximately 17wks old...which isn't too young for White Leghorns to start laying. Might be another month (at least) before anyone else joins her...I think.

My EE just started at almost 21 weeks :)
3 eggs, 3 days in a row!

I'm waiting for my BO and BR to join her, they're both my next layers I think..a little noisey and much redder in the comb

They are all getting louder...but it seems more like Fred has a cheering section (for now). I guess, when they all start laying, I'll notice a difference the their volume.

Pearl, my only laying girl, is pretty quiet except for her "I did it!" song that she sings LOUDLY right afterwards.
But Freya and Eloise...noisey girls lately. I'm hoping I'll see a tan egg soon!

By the way, anyone know why the ears change colors?
My Barred rock will be bright red during the day, then her ears fade to a yellowy orange, kind of splotchy, in the evening.
She doesn't have any symptoms and she's not acting different

sorry about no luck with hatching. I just hatched 11 of my 14 eggs, and just put 18 more on lockdown and had 5-6 already with pips, early chicks I guess

I really thought this hatching thing would be easier than what it is...

I might talk to my husband and see if he can use the parts from this incubator to build something that might be more reliable. I don't notice anything obviously wrong with the incubator, it seems to hold the temp. It might be our climate but I know people have to be able to hatch in this climate. The first hatch I figured it was me, the second hatch I thought we had it figured out and this hatch just has me frustrated. I don't think I can justify buying an extremely expensive incubator since I'm doing it 'just for fun' but trust me, this is not fun. I guess I need to break down and start making road trips to breeders that have what I want and pick up chicks.

My ladies are 18 weeks old. No chicken eggs yet. We still get duck eggs from Daisy and Ebony, but Ivory still hasn't laid, which has me a little concerned for her.

Are you sure it's the I did it song? I always thought it was the Ow, my butt hurts song. Lol.

I hope to hear the song and get eggs soon. At 18 weeks old their legs are yellowing up, combs are turning a nice pink/red color, but no laying behavior yet.

Hahaha!!
It could be the "I'm done, gimme some yogurt!" song.
I've been giving her a spoon after she lays...lol
I know that has to be hard work!
