Yep! The French varieties have feather, while the English do not.
It's true for all Marans.
The Golden Cuckoo I had had some feathering as well.

But if yours do NOT have feathering, they're still Marans, just to English standard :)

Good to know. We have three Blue Splash Maran/Americauna mixes...some of their siblings had feathered legs and some did not (ours don't), but I believe that is because they were not pure breed (and also not a "French Standard" recognized sub-breed).

DH killed this bad boy last night while on patrol. It was in FIL pool/fish pond getting fat on his goldfish! Best we can tell it's a moccasin. He's killed 6 snakes in there within the last month. 4 were juveniles we think hatched under the deck. This could have been the momma.

Dad's fish...

Very interesting...so my cuckoo maran w/o feathers...is of English lineage...learn a little every day.

Just hosed the roof of the chicken house and made mud for them to cool their feet. They are now having fun hunting bugs and bits of feed.

We have lots of shade and dirt for our Ladies & Girls to chill and forage in...but they seem to like it when I water the grass so they can drink off the leaves, even though there are waterers everywhere. Ha-ha!

The newest additions to our flock. :) Please allow me to introduce ya'll to our 5month-old(ish) Black Maran pullets, Bootsy & Barbarella. My daughter & I got to name our first 8 chickens, so we let my husband name the last two. :thumbsup They have lovely feathery legs and feet...and we can't wait for their chocolate-brown eggs. :D
Nice looking chickens! How was H&H?
Hi from Deep East Texas! We are over by Toledo Bend Reservoir. Really enjoy reading all the posts on BYC. A world of info here on a great venue. We are still working on our new coop and run. A bit of trim on the run and add the doors and all the outside will be close. Still need to finish the roost and stuff inside but the chicks are enjoying just having the run and being able to be under the coop. They have grown so fast, just amazing! We have 50 chicks of various breeds that include RIR hens, Black Star hens, Red Star hens and 25 Rare of Rare from Murray McMurray hatcheries. Some fun stuff in that bunch for sure. We also raise Llamas and Alpacas and also have a bunch of dogs and 2 cats. My wife and I are Grandparents raising a Granddaughter...that will keep you busy!

Welcome!

Poor baby, today has been a seizure and recovery day for my mom's dog. How long should I wait to give her her meds? I dont want to give her treats or food yet if its not a good time.

Have y'all read the above article yet? I think this fits perfectly with HensForTherapy.

I love to see how the Iowa election going after seeing this article.

Are there any chatter(s) in this forum considering running for Congress?

Have a good day... everyone.. and their chickens too
Hi stranger...long time ..no see
Yes I read the article and there was another about this same lady a few days ago when it first started. I too would like to see what happens at election time.
Thumbs up for the chicken lady. Four hens does not constitute a commercial chicken business, they are therapy chickens and she is doing a good thing helping kids with them.
