Texas

It was soft and watery I guess? It definitely was not full... it just kind of felt like when they wake up in the morning, just empty. Not really squishy like a water balloon. What did you do to fix the sour crop? She is nibbling at her food now and at scratch grains. I also added a tiny bit of hummingbird feed to her water to give her some sugars, not even a teaspoon, she seemed to like it a lot before bedding down again.
This is what happened to me. I don't want to give you incorrect information, because I am a beginner too. I found my chick (8 weeks old) lethargic, wings droopy, wouldn't eat, would kind of peck, but miss the food, so I felt of her mushy crop at 6pm when all my other chicks were hard and full/bulging in comparison (after feeling all over her and searching the internet) and decided she had sour crop. I keep on hand NATURAL apple ceider vinegar and had a new bottle just because of some 'tidbit' I read about putting in the chicken's water for...?? I don't even remember why I have it, but I did. I put a tablespoon and a half in a cup of lukewarm water and drew it up into a syringe and fed it to the poor baby. she seemed to like it! So I waited about 15 minutes..then I gently massaged her crop and then inverted her a little and made her burp (gently massaging her crop) The burp smelled bad...ok, I'm on the right track...so I gave her another dose of ACV and left her alone for a half hour...her crop was gassy and mushy again so I did the same..massage, invert and she regurgitated a little.. turn her back upright and leave her alone because I don't want to make her suck the mucus into her lungs and get pneumonia... Leave her for an hour and before bed, vinegar her again, burp her again (massage with her half upright) and put her to bed. The next day, she was about 50% better.. trying to eat and much more alert, but still not great. So I repeated the process. When I got home she was a lot better! about 80%, so I gave her a little ACV and put her to bed. Next day, she was normal...a little puny, but acting like a regular chicken. She acts like I pulled a thorn out of her paw! Very tame.

Again, this is just what happened to me. If you suspect Sour Crop, go to Wal Mart and get some apple ceider vinegar the NATURAL stuff that is cloudy and nasty looking and dilute it and wake her up to feed her a little bit. I wouldn't delay, but I'm a little more tense about this stuff than most people. If you are wrong about the diagnosis, the ACV won't hurt her!

I am going to have to wait till tomorrow to get to the store. I am currently blocked in on my street due to the neighbors having a party for their daughter. I just hope she makes it. =( I wanted a yokohama for so long... I guess I am lucky however that in the five years I have had chickens this is the worst problem I have had. I would gladly go back to having pasty butt any day though.

Well, every time I panicked about my chicks/chickens somebody here has always piped up to me and said "relax...this has been going on for a long time without you worrying"

You can only do what you can do. I'm In Parker and would bring you my ACV and run down the party busting through to the rescue!! but that's probably not reasonable so we have to accept our limitations. I hope your yokohama is better in the morning! In the meantime, look up how to check for egg binding and anything else you can think of so you're ready to hit the floor running!!

:)

Rooting for you!!!

lol
I hate Texas weather, I don't believe in "future" cold fronts lol. I believe them when I feel them haha. Born & raised in California, & being out here in Houston for about 3 years I've learned to 1) never believe the weather man 2) just because there's lots of thunder & lightening it doesn't mean it's going to rain 3) that Texas' mother nature is going thru menopause with her hot flashes & moodiness. Did I mention I hate Texas weather? Lol. I won't even go into the skeeters topic. When people say "everything is bigger in Texas" I joke around & say "the only things bigger are the skeeters & roaches"

I'm so sorry. :(

I'll be thinking about you today.

I took her to work and did a necropsy. Her crop looked healty. Just regular food in there. No egg, however it looked like she had a broken yolk in there, so I am guessing she internally laid and got an infection. Would explain her clear and yellow poop yesterday.

I am very glad you have the resources to find out what happened! That is so beneficial to all of us! , Thank you! So, with that information, have you learned anything about the cause or treatment?

I read that some birds just do not lay properly, and the egg sitting inside sets up an infection. The only thing I could have done was put her on antibiotics, but that dosen't mean she wouldn't internally lay again. However, I am also wondering about the chances of cocci now. I am going to get some corrid to mix in their water as preventative medicine for a bit.

Has anyone ever had a chicken that sneezes, but has like no other bad symptoms? My little sex link is sneezing, but she eats fine, walks fine, drinks, and is as lively as can be, but she's been sneezing for a couple of days now. No other chicken is doing this, just her. Is it the weather or something?
