Thanks for the well wishes.
The troubling thing to me was when DH was doing research on the laws about dogs attacking chickens it turns out there is a movement to remove chickens from the list of live stock so you can have the police come out and remove the dog for the death penalty for killing you live stock. Seems dog people are out ragged, that someone had this done when the neighbors dog wiped out their pet chickens. Started a petition because dogs are better companions and pets than chickens.

Keep your pets no matter what they are in your yard or be prepared for them to be terminated. My Chickens NEVER left my yard and poor Moe was dragged out of it. :hit Baldie and Birda were smaller so we have not seen any sign of them to bury. Moe was too big for that crappy puppy to drag home so it just left her mauled in my next door neighbors yard. ( puppy is 2 houses down from me). We found her just as she was closing her eyes for the last time.

My feeling is Kill AND be Killed. If my dog did that I would put her down.

I'd like to see a dog lay an egg. Better companion my ...

Yup but out my driveway...there is neighbor across street...his dog lies in wait at the top of his driveway....across from mine.IF I take my ( shooter) first I'm in the drink, even I don't ride well enough to stay on, if I shoot that thing off my rocket ahem...Arabian.lol AND neighbor would see me do it....and I'm not wasting my energy on shoveling that aggravating mongrel. We use SSS on hawks! :duc

My mustang is part Pegasus part shape shifter part apparition. I feel you on coming off a skiddish horse.

Although Mom wouldn't put up with an aggressive dog. She would stomp it. Hard. She's a known dog killer.

ETA: My horses name is Mom.

This is in my experience. Most of the people that have dogs as companions have them well trained and they don't let them roam free. That is not the case of majority dog owners in the states, they want a guard dog. Then they don't bother to insure it stays near what it is supposed to be guarding. Or they want a dog that will alert them to problems but don't train it not to bark at the neighbors in their own yard or at squirrels. Then they try to claim the companion animal bs when they won't spend time with the beast because it even snaps at them.

Have one in the neighborhood that has bitten my fiance. The thing doesn't like adults, especially adult males. You can't play the animal cruelty card against someone whom your animal has just slaughter their animals. If they attack without provocation they are vicious and don't need to live.

As much as I am an animal lover and bleeding heart, if it comes down to me, family, friends or my animals their dog won't be the one to survive.

If they can organize for their ill-trained dogs, then we can organize to keep our chickens legally protected. If I can train my dog not to attack other animals, so can they. It isn't that hard. Dogs do what their owners allow. All my Duchess does when she manages to catch the cats is lick them all over and she's actually frightened of my 4 week old chicks. I've never let her play with a toy that squeaks because guess what else makes squeaky prey sounds: babies and small animals. I'd probably have strong words with the owner after the first time but if it happened again I would definitely call the law on it. I guess I'll point one of the cameras towards the coop when it's set up so I'll have video evidence to back it up if it happens. Since I have a dog, I wouldn't put it past people to claim it was my own canine that did it.

Neighbors' dogs (and hawks) are the reason mine don't get to free-range unless I'm outside with them. Hens are in a coop with full-time access to a run, and the first round of chicks this year are in an open-air coop. Going to be building a larger run for them all for days I am home but not outside. Knew we were going to have issues with them wandering here, biggest scare came about a month after getting the hens here. Woke up to their alarm calls and dogs barking, had 5 or 6 hunting dogs surrounding the coop. Scared them off, haven't seen them again since, that was about 6 months ago. So far have not had a predator get into the coops.
Hawks are why I don't let them free range alone. On a clear day, I see their shadows circle.

Good for you Rooster!!!

ETA: I renewed mine for the fourth time last year. Did not have to sit through the class or do range time that go round.
Once I took that class years ago, I only had to get online, pay my fee, and they mail out another card.

Turned out to be a nice trip. On and off light rain up to Brenham, then one hard shower as we drove around town and as soon as we hit the north side, it stopped and by the time we got to Cameron, it was sun shiny and perfect. Got my peeps and only a few sprinkles around Hempstead on the way home.
Is it much easier to drive anand get the chicks? I thought about it before.
I can no longer even ride our horses down my driveway without my horse getting chased and bitten by dog packs... So aggravating. It's ok if you are an experienced rider and unafraid...but when you ride with a more novice rider...like my kids...it scares the mess out of you. Police do NOT care about dog complaints and SPCA or dog catchers do not come this far into the country. And vets do NOT see chickens here. Period.vet them yourself or dispatch them when dogs attack them. I had a mottled am roo slaughtered right in my front yard. AND I have a herd of dog hating, dog stomping donkeys! Which I'm scared the dog pack will kill so I put them up at night :/ The dog came in the morning for the roo before the donkeys were let out...:hit

This is an unfortunate reality, I have several people who come to my clinic that neglecte their dogs, not training then, socializ ing them and they are dangerous! Yes if I am not outside, my chickens and rabbits would be free game outside of the pen, but you better **** well believe if I am out there they will not touch them. If I am sitting by the open window watching, I also could have the them all out together. People need to work with their dogs more, we have several strays that run the streets near me, and I quite often send my dogs out on a lead to run then out of my yard with either a baseball bat, katana, or a gun waiting. All I know is that with my next batch of dogs whey will be trained sooner around chickens.
