I am working on it. My BCM's aren't sexually mature yet. It will be awhile. But, I do plan on breeding them. That is one of the reasons I got them. I currently have 13. Five are Roosters, and the rest hens. I plan on keeping two of the roosters to insure fertility. That should be enough girls for them. At the moment I plan on breeding Chocolate Opringtons, Black Copper Marans, and Blue and Splash Americanas. I am also toying with breeding the Blue Americanas with the Black Copper Marans to make Olive Eggers. One of my pens where Lucky the Rooster resides is where my egg laying pen is. He has 7 Easter Eggers to himself, and one Plymouth Bar Rock. Though, I plan on moving in the two Buff Orpington and two other Plymouth Bar Rock hens with him. I have no interest in breeding Plymouth Bar Rocks, they tend to have unpleasant personalities. He has sired three Easter Egger Roosters, and two Easter Egger hens. All but one of his boys are going to become dinner, save one. He made one the most beautiful Easter Egger Roosters I have ever seen. It has a white neck like an eagle and, green/black body that sheens and looks like scales, with gold spots in the wings. That one is to pretty to be processed. So, when Lucky gets old and grey and he can't keep the Easter Eggers going, his son will fill in for him. Lucky is the most untouchable rooster I have. He will never be anyone's dinner if I can help it. I killed some raccoons that got near his pen. Two out of three with a 12 gauge wasn't a bad raccoon percentage as they scattered in all directions.I have been a member on here since 1-2-11 and just found this "Texas" thread. COOL !! I just got back in the "chicken business" so to speak, and have half a dozen birds. 4 Auracana and 2 game hens. Am currently looking to increase my flock, preferably with some Black or Blue Copper Marans. When I joined this forum we lived in NM and I had a nice flock of Welsummers but while on vacation, the friend who was taking care of our birds left the gate open and a dog killed all but one of them.Shortly thereafter, we move back to Texas due to severe illness in the family and the last couple of years we haven't had a place to keep chickens. BUT, we do now !!! Anyway, I'm glad I found this thread. We live a few miles outside of Longview. Are there any reputable Marans breeders in east Texas?
