Texas

Anyone in the fort worth area want a free coop/hutch? I am going to post it on the boards but figured I would go here first. I was keeping my rabbits in it, and my chickens like to go in there and lay their eggs. It is 4 foot wide, by 10 foot long run, with a 4 foot by 2 foot house. There is a second level in the run, no perches however. The entire bottom has wire or wood, but it could be removed if wanted. =) It is made out of two heavy 10 foot pallets, so you will need a trailer and a couple people to move it. My husband can pick one end up by himself, but the other would need two people.

We live in Red Rock. It is soo sad to get flooded and then TWICES, gosh my heart goes out to them all. I went to school in San Marcos. It was Southwest Texas State when I went way long ago, lol. We have Barred Rocks, EE's and new Lavender Orpington chicks. Two hatched 3 weeks ago and I have some eggs in the bator now on day 21. One has hatched and I hear one peeping.

WOW, man do you have eggs, lol. How many chickens? We just took some bull calves to the sale.

That's great to hear about Orps. I hope my baby orp chicks are girls.

9 mature hens at 8 months old, get 8-9 eggs a day, free range. I have 2 heifers and 1 bull calf so far, these will be show heifers and steers. What did you get for your calves, interested to know and what #'s ?

That's great production! Ah well... I'm not really sure... I just spend the money and it was $1,900+ for two born this year. My DH does all of the accounting book work, lol.

I was considering some diversification such as Cayuga, Khaki Campbell ducks, or a turkey from a hatchery. I wrote Texas Wild Life Department to see if any licensure was required. I was told that a license is required for them. No instructions as to where to get the license just the PDF link:

First Black Copper Maran egg very nice dark chocolate. Between a 7 and 8.
Congrats! Are they different on the inside than other eggs?

I haven't popped it open to find out. Our table hens are slowing down. But, eventually, I will find out. This Spring or Summer as I am adding another set of hens soon, I plan on getting NPIP inspected and sell hatching Maran eggs. Until then, I plan on seeing if they taste any different or not as the lore goes. I suspect a chicken egg is a chicken egg, they just look cool.
