Texas

I am curious, does anyone create a "winter blend" of feed for their birds? I have been pushing more protein due to the molt and winter months. Egg production has dropped more than it did last year. I have been mixing layer pellets, egg protein powder, feather fixer, shelled sunflower seeds, meal worms, grit, and some diatomaceous earth. I suspect they are scratching through everything else just to get at the seeds and meal worms though. More feed is spread all over their coop than usual.

Always better safe than sorry. I know most hatcheries recommend you contact your local authorities before ordering Turkeys. Particularly important here in Texas since we have large populations of wild turkey that need protecting.
Yes, but Burborns and Broad Breasted, etc, are far from wild. I think is probably Austin over-reaching again. But, that is what you get when your state legislature is mired in Moon Bat city. However, they did pass the Amendment that they don't have to live there anymore. I have no problem protecting wild turkey, I have a stamp for it every year. I don't hunt them. I deer hunt.

Do any of you name your roosters?
The two Chocolate Orpington Roosters: Charlie and Lawrence
The remaining Black Copper Marans: Chauncy, Jaque, and Henri
The remaining Americanas: Elvis, and Snow

The two Roosters in the table egg coop: Lucky and his son formerly known as Eagle and now known as Easter-Dork.

We have Spencer (BA) , LJ (BR), Thirteen (Lakenvelder), Clyde (Dom[American Game]), Midge (Leghorn bantam), Sir (Serama), Him(Kraienkoppe), Beck 1-2-and3 (SSH roosters) and.... I'm missing some boys.

Anyone frozen yet?

Not frozen yet, but we've gotten a wee bit close last night and will do so tonight.

Dumbledore (Cream Legbar), and the Naked Neck cockerels: Tank, Dozer, Bane, Mouse, Neo, Apoc, and Cypher. (Can't keep them all, of course...)

It was really cold in the deer stand today. The hoses faucets going out to the chicken fountains are wrapped.

It froze here last night according to our digital thermometer. I didn't cover plants. Even the ginger was fine... Which means it was a dry cold. That's aok with me!!

Plants are covered tonight. Wind chill is pretty high.

Well, hopefully it will keep those doe moving. I saw some really good shooters, just west of the lease plot area I was on. Sat there all day and saw nothing, until I drove out about noon. Then right across the lease road.

I took my son, and he got deer fever bad. "Daddy, get your gun. Shoot them!"

No, son, we can't shoot them from the vehicle, we can't shoot them off our section of the lease. But, yes, it is both exciting and disappointing.

36 this morning on the ride in to work......of course as soon as I hit the concrete of the city jungle the temp jumped 6 degrees......
