Texas

I had no clue there was an allergy to capsaicin. Wow. Buddy is allergic to seafood. He'd go to a crawfish boil and eat one. If ok, 5 minutes later eat a second one. Repeat until his lip turned red and started burning and not from the cayenne. People make due.

Killed all but one of the Jalepenos. Just got the replacements in the ground. I'm sure they will love the rain this week. Gentle and not 16" please. Already harvested 2 peppers. On the mild side though. Started more banana peppers since the puppies devastated the kitchen garden.
Never really cared for spicy food growing up so it didn't really affect me to much. I didn't realize that I was allergic until I moved to Texas. I thought everyone's lips, mouth, and throat burned and itched when they ate peppers and could never understand the appeal. We were cutting up some sweet banana peppers for dinner and I tried a small piece, realized it was spicy and spat it out... And then my face started swelling. My lips were swollen for 16 hours even after benadryl! Since then all peppers trigger that allergic reaction except for bell peppers which happen to be the only peppers that don't have capsaicin. I also keep on the straight and narrow (not that I didn't before) because I can't afford to be sprayed with pepper spray!

I guess I am lucky to have zero food allergies.
I really can't imagine not being able to eat certain thing/having to watch what exactly I eat.

It sounds like a not so fun thing to have...food allergies.
I'm Hispanic but my parents are from Dominican Republic so our culture doesn't go heavy on the spice like Mexican culture. I can pretty much eat at any table in the DR without having to worry about it. Here in Texas, I have to be a bit on my guard but luckily my allergy affects me more when it's fresh rather than cooked so I don't have to worry too much about cross contamination like peanut allergy peeps. Just no pico, salsa, or guac unless I know there's no peppers and avoid anything with a spicy lable. Oh and never trust a Mexican when they say it's not spicy- their level of not spicy and mine are VERY different!

Some Texans too. And Cajuns. Don't forget the nuts. We pepper everything. From eggs to pork steak. Dad got me started and I passed him a long time ago with pepper cravings.
Had a northern boss. I'd get a cup of pickled jalapenos and eat them like potato chips with a sandwich. He'd start sweating watching me. LOL

The look on my face the first time I saw a coworker pull out a bottle of hot sauce from her purse! I see people eat those picked peppers all the time. I saw a toddler eating a whole jalapeno. And I'm over here tearing up at black pepper! I'm surprised y'all don't have a thick coating of leather on your tongues! How do you even taste the food?

I peed in my pants.
This is what I say.

You know how normal pepper keep a salt and pepper shaker on their table?
(or near it or where ever)
I keep one with cayenne pepper too.

Growing up my friends would come over for dinner and ask, "How in the world does your mom manage to make spaghetti so spicy?"
It wasn't spicy to us and it was just garlic and maybe a little tiny bit of cayenne.
