Texas

Well it finally rained and we have a north wind that dropped us down to 70F with .1-.2 inches of rain. So far. Would be a great day to work outdoors. We might get to 85 today for the high the chicken sure are going to love that feeling.
Yep, just in time for molting. Egg production has already dropped and the feathers are looking ragged. Poor girls.

It rained all night. When the lawn guy showed up I put the birds up that were on the yard and closed them up in their house so the geese wouldn't pester them. I did not make it back out there to open the door before the rain hit, so I went out in the deluge to open the door. I had to abandon the umbrella entirely to get the turkey hen into the house. She's new to that pen and still isn't roosting where she should. The guineas of course, have been sleeping out on the ground every night until I re-homed the male. Now they roost like good birds. This was only their third night to go up without him and with the door locked they were just patiently waiting for it to open. I felt awful. lol

No rain or temp drop for us, (Coldspring). We've dropped from 30+ eggs a day to 18+a day. I've got one hen that's practically plucked. I'm really hoping she get's re-feathered. The A$$hole gang did a number on her. So glad they're gone.
Yeah I see even now far SE Texas still has not and may not see anything from this front. Chin up there is another one on the way and expected to take us out of the 90+'s again here locally on Sun. We are 10F lower and about 1/2 inch of total rain from it and it only made it through about 10-15 miles south of us and into the gulf. If it wasn't for the 90% humidity I could sleep with the windows open with the 70F outside temps bordering on high 60's. I'm happy to let HOU/Beaumont take the morning high temp crown for 24 hours.

I don't think I have shocked a door handle in years. I put up some new floodlights for outdoor lights that I bought online just cheapies that have a day night sensor in the bulbs themselves but love the 5k daylight for floods. Not real happy with the pattern they throw, however they throw light far and like having the Compact mercury filled CFLS going to landfill. I don't want to wire in a new fixture at the top of a 13 foot ladder in thorny citrus for that spot. The old ones came with the house and were a warm white. The other lights I installed with daylights(dusk-Sunup) 2/2 failed within 4 hours of use so thinking they are heating up in the enclosed recessed fixtures and dying. So CFL's were put back. Now trying to think where I might put the last two I am thinking at the end of the driveway as those are more open at the base. However I never use those lights as they are well covered by floods.

Good evening yall,
Well, we've now lost 4 birds in two weeks, and we want to re build our flock a bit. We don't want any cockerels, however will take unsexed if we must.

We're looking for an: Ideal 236, Dominique, Whiting true blue / green, Sicilian Buttercup, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Golden Duckwing Phoenix Standard, Columbian Wyandotte, Russian Orloff, Silver Spangled Hamburg, and / or a Golden Campine.

I know the list I provided is a bit weird, but we like to have a diverse flock, and I personally like to raise some of the more rarer breeds. If you have any of these birds, or any other pullets for sale, let me know!

For reference, we live in north texas, the DFW / Aledo area, willing to drive pretty far for a bird.
