Texas

Apologies if I opened a wound.

Enjoy the chickens. They are wonderful. Craiglist had several people offering free chickens last I looked. Your next trip to the big city may mean you get some new birds too. They are wonderful, aren't they?

DD#2 comes home from college to visit the chickens. She is quite enthralled. Already has plans for her own coop and recruited me to plan, build and stock it. So exciting!
No need to apologize.
Life is good

Coldest before dawn, I've always heard.
Dropped to 27 @ 7 a.m.
Birds fed. I screwed up and forgot to refrigerate the leftover beef stew last nite.
Not much left-a couple cupful. So I heated enuff to melt the grease added oatmeal and the girls got a good breakfast (they don't seem to care for onions).
My cat who is now gone, loved onions. I would feed him chili, he would pick out all the onions, eat them first, then finish the chili. He spoiled me to all other cats. I miss him daily.
There will never be a replacement for him.
Ours was even 39.9F this morning. Cooler days ahead. I really have to look at the forecast and put my flip flops in to storage.

I just wanted to write a bit about a non chicken keeping matter.

Teutonic people are not to be trifled with. I am sure the romans never conquered them and the Vikings left them alone for good reason. Tiger Woods lost his teeth to his wife but I married one. She is a 5'10" blond hair blue eyed goddess but get on her last good nerve and you are in serious trouble. I would like to collect ancient weapons, but that just ain't going to happen around here.

Regardless we are happily married for over 15 years without too many issues and our upcoming anniversary. This thought had me up tonight. Probably because of the no large bladed objects in the house policy. I really miss skipping on some old French meat cleavers from the 1890's but boohoo for me.

You do not turn your back on an angry Teutonic individual.

Happy is good.
I have an old meat cleaver. Its in a drawer somewhere.
Hmmmmm

Need some non chicken advice.
I want to relocate/rehome some squirrels.
When would be best time of year?
Spring they have babies
Fall they would need time to build nests.
Also, is it illegal to live trap squirrels?
I have heard it is...
If so, how would I catch them.
No clue I honestly believe the only correct method to rehome squirrels in Texas is with a shotgun. Check those hunting regulations and acquire a license. Just to be on the right side of the law.

What is the reason you would rather relocate than eliminate?

Tractor supply has live traps. You tube has snares and homemade live traps.

To clarify my answer @Matejka I know it is illegal to rehome raccoon, bobcats and other healthy wildlife in this state by either a) National laws or b) state law. I do not want to give out bad advice. It just is not illegal to shoot them on your own property if a nuisance unless it is a hawk or other protected species.

Also if you know any Louisianan folk call them in they will fix the squirrel problem and then fry them up for dinner.
