Texas

I suppose I must apologize, we rolled into Mckinney Wednesday night (after 5 days of driving and 6 states lol) and apparently dragged the awful cold weather with us!

Not exactly how we thought we would be spending the first few days here. Not to mention our rental home was still under construction so we weren't able to even move in, thankfully I have family here in The Colony so we've been hunkered down with them. Praying we can get out to the house this weekend to start cleaning. ABF called yesterday to inform us that 'due to weather' we will not be delivering your moving trailer till Monday at some point. 😬 not exactly the news we needed after driving so far. But alas here we are, thankful to finally be in TX though, thats for sure!

Welcome to Texas.
If you don’t like the weather-wait awhile it'll change. My daddy said that often. We will be wanting "chilly" in August. It seems Texas does everything in extremes. Enjoy it-knowing it will not last and the next extreme will be different. Enjoy your new house-life.
And don't take anything for granted.

Seriously! Be glad it’s also delayed delivery… in fact let them know the site is still under construction and might want to wait for Tuesday for a dry & clean drop site! Give you a couple days to locate and prep a spot for the trailer/container to be offloaded where you won’t have a mud trough to trek thru to unload said container!!!

Take note of the yesterday pics of my front yard (posted here); Now, think about what a construction site & driveway would look like with that frozen moisture added into it. Do you Really want to spend a major amount of time and money figuring out a temporary “bridge” and then how to clean everything and keep the mud outta the house too?

Go drive by site and seriously look at it with the eyes of a delivery driver! Where is the easiest spot to put the trailer or the container (slide it off said trailer). Now bonus points if you know the difference between a sighted & blindside delivery.

You have some very good points! We went by the house yesterday and thankfully not much snow or mud left already. So we definitely should be in the clear for Monday.

I guess I dread the cold days after having lived in the PNW my whole life lol. We had 2 feet of snow and below freezing Temps for over a week just about a month ago, so I'm very much yearning for warm sunny days.

Got a VERY broody hen. She started to go broody Friday. Sat morning-no eggs-she was in nest, flattened out sad hissed when I reached towards nest.
Sat night-same thing-she tried yo bite me when I tried to reach under her.
Sunday a.m. she did bite me. I collected the rest of eggs. Sun nite I picked her up-whew-her swelled up and hissing-6 eggs under her.
This morning I picked her up. Feathers straight out hissing. Still 6 eggs. I set her in next nest and marked eggs and put her back. Later, I nailed a board on front of nestbox to prevent any falling babies. She never moved or flinched (with hammer swinging near her beak).
Count down begins.

Ya know, I am so thankful that my Broody Momma’s all are tolerant of me. They may hiss, or “peck” or “faux bite” when in full broodiness-pancakes out mode but, then have always let me gently slide a hand under them to either check or take the eggs from under them. One of them does get cranky and cackle while my hand lifts her slow and gently…. When I return the eggs they never hiss or anything. Even when it’s one egg at a time.

I feel so lucky in this regard. My only wish is the other breeds would go broody once or twice…. None have to date.
