I haven't lost it! I have a new bird. Not real sure how/or when, but she in the coop.

Not completely sure I've lost complete track of time
Couple weeks ago, I went fishing. Must have been bird fishing, fly fishing or tree fishing. It wasn't fish fishing coz I got rig, hook bobber and SINKER (weight) hung in a tree. I caught a tree! as I was pulling pulling and tree spit it out. Weight flew back and nailed me. Right above left eye. I saw stars, lights the world went gray. Knot bigger than a quarter. Small egg size. Got home went to bed. Next day I let bigs out, locked babies in coop and filled run pine needles, cleaned refilled both 5 gal waterers and put out feed.
That nite I counted bigs-5 and locked run. The next 4-5 days are fuzzy. I remember feeding cats dog and spent most time in bed. Somewhere in there I went and checked chickens water,food, gathered eggs coz I have 14 more eggs than I had.
Sunday I was feeling better, that nite 1:30 ruckus at coop, grabbed gun went out, feral cat, I ran it off and counted birds-5. Then I see a light color, mine are all red/black. There she is tucked on roost next to rooster. She one of the wilds that run the neighborhood. She must have gotten in the day I raked pine Needles. Birds have not been out of coop since, and it's predator proof.

Funny story....the new bird part....not the sinker to the eye part.

I saw a feral hen very similar to yours at the Walmart parking lot a few years ago!
Have no idea where it may have come from but it was very tame.

Hello folks,
My coop should be finished in a couple days. My wife and I are new to back yard chickens and are looking for breed that is good laying, friendly disposition and produces med to large brown eggs. We live south of Houston.
