Hello fellow Texans - I'm on the Gulf and the louisiana line - Bridge City - ( down here in the middel of all the refineries) I'm a newbee and enjoying myself as I stumbel around - did someone say Cameron ? Being on the Louisiana line I know Cameron La. - or is there a Cameron Tx. too.
I've been looking and reading on Breeds - love the Orpington - but someone posted they dont take the heat --
I've picked a coop design - it's off 2 of BYC --- and a brooder -- a feeder style and a watering system - my husband bought a shop on 15 acres and there sat an abondoned building , so I laid claim.
I showed hubby BYC so he could catch my vision - and he's on board now. Just thought I'd rambel abit - I have a whole lot to learn -- hoping to be ready for chicks around easter.

I have orpingtons up here in north Texas and I've had them in South Carolina and Georgia. They do alright as long as they have shade and plenty of water. You can also fill empty milk jugs with water and sit them in the coops for the birds to lay up against on REALLY hot days. My birds like that on 100 plus days.

Don't know what the reference to Cameron Texas was, but yes, there is a Cameron Texas, in central Texas. It is home to Ideal Poultry Co., a large hatchery, and maybe that's what the reference was to.

Welcome, BTW. I am just starting with chickens also.
