For the dog, build a better fence. 😑
That's the problem. There's no fence. I've been making a half-hearted makeshift compost pile with lawn clippings and leaves for years and I just chuck it in the corner of the yard. She's never wanted to investigate until yesterday evening. I actually had pine shavings and chicken poo from when they were baby chicks, but I never caught her hanging out there for hours before. My actual fence is in disrepair so when I've been quoting replacements I have asked fence contractors to assume I want to keep all of my old pickets and to just stack them up in a pile for me. I'll have to start using some of the broken pieces that I've already collected to make that area into an actual makeshift bin.

All I can say is good luck! My little dog thinks the chickens are walking soft serve machines 🤢 There's something magical about chicken poop too dogs🤷🤣

4 pallets wired or screwed together works great for a compost bin. I have mine in my chicken yard and they inspect whatever I add and taste it while adding more poop directly to the pile. The dogs aren't allowed.

After the compost has cooked, I open the bin and let the chickens kick it apart to mix it. They love getting all the good bits from the compost bin. My compost piles are in the banana grove and chicken lounge area. Bananas are hungry and need lots of fertilizer. This system works great for me.

Yeah, ok, no....
