Texas

Hey there fellow Texans! So nice to see so many Texas chicken people here! I am newly joined here, though have been browsing and lurking for nearly a year.

Just wanted to add my chirp for the list of Texas members. I am in the teeny tiny town of Crowell, southeast of Dallas. I have 4 Australorpes (or ostrich-lopers as my daughter likes to call them

), 3 EE's, 2 of the cutest chihuahuas on earth, a golden retriever, and 3 cats. I'm building chicken coops now and plan on getting many more chicks in a month or two. Then we plan to branch into rabbits and eventually kinder goats. It'll be a zoo!

Not seen them in my feed, seen them if feed at someone else's place not long ago. They are just looking for food, maybe the power/dust/crumbled food has something sweet they like. Usually if you don't mess with them they keep to themselves.
I'm thinking they might be Africanized. Been seeing them around for several weeks and they buzz all around you. But not until about 3 days ago did they start rolling in the chicken feed. I think they may be trying to load up on the dust too.

Poor chickens, between the fat squirrel, the huge attack of cutter ants and now the bees, I'm feeding the world here! Bah! I left the feed out this time because I couldn't pick it up with all the bees. Interesting to know if the squirrel is getting any "table time."

are yours laying yet

I hatched 3 about 2 weeks ago from my splash split = all 3 are silkied. I hatched 9 this weekend from my silkied hen & a splash & blue split. Of those 2 are splash, 1 is black & the rest are blue. I will know in about 5 days who is silkied. Still waiting on 2 silkied pullets to start laying and 1 split. I am adding eggs from this coop every weekend from here on.
