Sarge is doing his Chicken Math now...

LOL.. last fall I had well over 100 (dual purpose and layers) with about 25 meaties.. have it down to about 50 layers now.. ordering more this spring since I am getting ready to cull hard again
Planning to add some Buckeyes, Dark Cornish and White Laced Red Cornish

I just counted today and I have 60 indoors in brooders, 32 in the barn brooder, 35 fully feathered pullets /roos,18 hens and 3 roos. Wow that adds up to exactly 65. I love chicken math.

I wish the rest of the country could have weather like this! Got the garden ready for planting turnip greens, lettuce, cabbage, new potatoes......Growing lots of corn this year too $$$ Makin me ready for Spring! Have a great day Texans!!
I'm jealous of your beautiful soil!...very sandy, a little clay, here. I have a few huge compost heaps to start working into my garden area this year, but your garden looks wonderful!! Good luck and enjoy the nice weather we're having. Seguin's enjoying the nice temps right now too.

I agree.. beautiful looking soil

we have limestone.. and rocks... and limestone rocks.. and... more darn limestone!

Which reminds me.. i need to go clear out the compost pile again plus move some bunny manure over to the "garden"

eventually.. someday.. maybe I'll have real soil!

Thanks! I put a lot of manure and shavings from the coops in it over the winter. I hope I haven't put too much in it. Chicken poop is some strong stuff! This is my third year of adding compost to it but my first year adding coop leavins.
Loving this weather. It's going to be 74 here today!

I just finished potting up some seeds for various greens this morning and discovered that my broccoli seeds had all sprouted too.

I love fresh greens too. I usually just buy the starter plants at the feed store because I didn't think far enough ahead to plant seeds. I picked a mess of collard greens this morning and almost took them into the kitchen instead of to the chickens. Buuuut it's winter and they haven't been out foraging much. Good luck with yours!
