Quote: After reading what Kilsharion wrote about the gro gel I think i would get rid of it.. You're better off with a poultry vitamin.. BUT if it's a failure to grow chick as I suspect.. then the vitamins just won't do it any good. For the failure chicks there is usually something wrong with them internally and they never do well or make it to adulthood.

If you are determined to try though.. toss the gro gel.. no need for the chick to be filling up on it if it's not going to do much good.. and replace it with the boiled egg.. a little molasses.. maybe some unsweetened yogurt or kefir if you have access to it instead of regular milk (if you can get raw goats milk though that would be a plus). If you're fermenting feed I would switch it over to fermented as well.

If the chick goes down to where it refuses to eat you would have to force feed it or cull it.. i hate to tell you that.. but it's just how it is. Personally I would cull it at that point.. but i realize you want to do what you can to try to save it.

Has anyone tried "Poultry Nutri Drench". I've seen people on BYC swearing by it. It's supposed to be good for shipped or stressed chicks. You put a drop in each chicks mouth when they arrive and then put some in their water too. Just wondering if anyone here has tried it. TSC is supposed to have it.

the mites can get into every crack and crevice of the coop.. I have heard of people on here who had to burn their coops because they couldn't get rid of them..

here are a few links:

even once you kill the adults you're going to have to retreat to get any new ones that have hatched..
Can you use ivermectin on birds. I think it works against mites?

On the dust bath I mix DE, woodash, and soft dirt or sand.they absolutely love it also wood ash has natural lye that helps drive away the bugs

Yes, use wood ashes, cover them in them, then put a pan in the pen. I personally not use DE becuase it also kills beneficial bugs that help keep mites under control. Here is a great thread with people that know a LOT more than me that had to deal with that also

Quote: I tried that, did not work, the polish that was lighter was impossible to see after 2 days and the dark stuff got pecked at by the others. Just my 2 cents, LOL! I use zip ties, change them once when they are 1 week, then again at 3 weeks, normally by 6 weeks, I can leave it big enough to grow into.
