Texas

Hi, I am in Texas - in the DFW area. My husband and I will be getting our first order of chicks on April 8th from Mcmurray. We did it simple by getting half red star and half black star. I grew up with them on my baby sitter's farm, but have never had any of my own. We live out in the suburbs of Ft. Worth and our city allows up to 20 so we ordered 15. We mostly have them for the eggs, but when they stop laying we're not going to let the meat go to waste so we will process them and eat them. However, we've never done this so we would love it if someone is close by to teach us. Anyhow, Hello everyone!

Who did you order from? I live in a small town so I called the post office and told them about my chicks and she took my name and number and called me that morning when they got there so I could get there fast. That sucks that they delayed your order!

Mine are from a private breeder in Gainsville TX. I've been assured that I'm first on the list for the 3/18 hatch. I'm probably going to pick them up at the PO if I can. I read on another post that someone that did get some chicks from them had one dead lavender when they arrived and they were overnighted. He has a live chick guaranty but I'm still worried!

I thought the postal instructions on the peeps box said to call, not to deliver. I'm going to have to figure out which office my mail comes from. There's one that I think is a distribution center on Huffmeister and a service office on Spring Cypress.

Thank you for your kind welcoming. I've been reading pretty much everything you can imagine on the forums here. It's all been very beneficial. Should I call our PO to let them know we have chickens coming closer to that date? On my order ticket Mcmurray says I'll receive them between the 8th and 10th, but I read on here that they only ship on Fridays and Saturdays.....that's a long transit.

I would give them a call a couple of days before they are due to arrive to give them a heads up that you have chicks coming in.. and if you see your mailman remind him too

I went and spoke to my local post office, and made out like I was doing them a favor to get the babies out of the post office. I joked about the chicks making so much noise, so they actually called me at about 5:30 am and met me at the front door with the box. May seem like overkill but it made an impression on them and I got my babies really quickly.
