Texas

Good morning everybody,
Hope y'all are having a good day!!! My wife is supposedly getting our Internet at the house up and running so hopefully I will be able to finally post some pics and add my avatar!!!! On another note anybody got a good way to get rid of a chicken snake? I think I've got an egg sucker hanging around, my new production reds have not laid yet and the ones my buddy got at the same time "same group same pen same age" are laying everyday and I haven't got squat!!! :( I put a wooden red egg in the box yesterday when I got home from work but I don't know if that will work, it has in the past but I'm open to suggestions!!

I did not know that o 3o Maybe I shall try that one. No harm can be done anyway. My neighbors think i am weird already, so how much worse could it get?

Yeah, I actually do use brains for tanning. It's how I was taught. I also bury a hide in the ground and pile leaves on top of it for a few days (up to a week, depending) before I rack it, defur and tan it.

Okay sorry, but I will ask WHAT does this mean?

It is based on my last visit up to her area.

like big chicken eggs!

they are a bit "firmer'.. but taste wise I really don't see any difference between any of the eggs

I actually used some of the turkey eggs for the deviled eggs, as well. My husband devoured them. I only got four before he demolished the rest. The nice thing about the turkey eggs is that they were larger and a bit more firm. However, removing the shell was more difficult on the turkey eggs vs the chicken eggs. But - the flavour was the same as the chicken eggs. You do seem to see more yolk to white ratio on the turkey eggs...but, that could have been an illusion due to the size difference between the eggs.

I love those c-duck eggs, Yinepu!! (I'd spell it out, but I'd get it wrong

I am actually wanting to try and keep the fur on the hides. I have no leaves where I live so I can't do that.

Does anyone else in texas have mc murray hatchery stock photos they can share? I am currious as to what my birds might look like. I know it is silly... but I am trying to name them already and I just want an idea of what they will look like before I name them xD

i am going out of town this weekend and will ahve to rely on my mother in law to tend the chicks for a few days......im pretty skeptical. was really trying to get them outside by this weekend so there would be less maitenance, but its looking like they are still going to be in the brooder for the weekend which they are rapidly out-growing (im already cleaning out their waterers atleast twice a day as it is...)

Is it sad that im weighing the options of a weekend long vaca on the well being of my chickens...been driving DW nuts with what she needs to tell her mother and everything! lol! i also picked up some bigger feeders that will be going in for this weekend to attempt to help out, but its the wateres that concern me. i have them raised on a wooden platform, but at this point the chicks just need more room...not much i can do till i get a door on the coup that will actually seal up...

I think McMurray's website has chick pictures for each of the breeds precisely so people can try to figure out what they got...It'd be worth a look-see.

I don't. However, from what the Dorking Breeder's Club reports, their Dorkings are of decent quality. Can't speak to any of your breeds, though.

Oh, I was just saying it was another thing I was taught - to bury it for a few days before I defur. :)

I brain tan anything I'm tanning - fur on or off. I was taught that an animal has just enough brains to tan its own hide....so far, that's held true. Makes me wonder....when my dad used to threaten me with tanning my hide, exactly what was he threatening to do?

I was honestly thinking about getting one or two! It was so hard to decide. I am tempted to call and make a change to my order, again! xD They are going to be annoyed with me by the time I really order....

Thanks so much! I wish they would put up pictures of their stock yah know?
