Oh, I was just saying it was another thing I was taught - to bury it for a few days before I defur. :)

I brain tan anything I'm tanning - fur on or off. I was taught that an animal has just enough brains to tan its own hide....so far, that's held true. Makes me wonder....when my dad used to threaten me with tanning my hide, exactly what was he threatening to do?

That is quite scary... xD Do you jsut smear the brains on the hide and let is sit? And for how long? And what do you do after you use the brains?

On a side note, should I go ahead and order two langshan? A white and a black? xD

i know there is an IDEAL thread that people, including me, have posted pics in...i bet there is a McMurray one, if not start one and im sure it would take off!

Thanks so much! I wish they would put up pictures of their stock yah know?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't like places that only post photos of the eggs and chicks. I especially don't like the ones that show drawings of the breed.

Be advised - Ideal has roosters hopping their fences all the time, which is why you sometimes get crazy mixes like the "Wyandottes" in this video:

The BAs are actually quite nice - even if their shape is a bit off (tails too high). Their colouration, etc. is lovely. But, the SLWs? Um...yeah....I have pencil lacing on two of the girls and one of them is just....a mess. All three are actually messes...

I actually used some of the turkey eggs for the deviled eggs, as well. My husband devoured them. I only got four before he demolished the rest. The nice thing about the turkey eggs is that they were larger and a bit more firm. However, removing the shell was more difficult on the turkey eggs vs the chicken eggs. But - the flavour was the same as the chicken eggs. You do seem to see more yolk to white ratio on the turkey eggs...but, that could have been an illusion due to the size difference between the eggs.

I love those c-duck eggs, Yinepu!! (I'd spell it out, but I'd get it wrong

cayuga?... I love the first year layers.. the eggs start off black.. then lighten as they lay more.. problem is the coating on them is VERY easy to scratch off... but some of the grey eggs have rather unique patterns on the shells

My mother did try tanning my hide (on several occasions

) ... problem was she used to call me "brainless".. so I am assuming that's why the tanning never "stuck"..

edited to add:
Add emu and ostrich to the list of "not enough brains to tan their hides".. since they have "leather" you would tan them like a fur bearer.. but with such tiny heads there is no way you'll get enough brains to cover all that hide!

i only avoid brain tanning because I like to save the skulls.. I don't like to make any large holes in there to remove the brains
