Pretty bummed. I've spent $ and time getting my garden perfect and planted...

Our city will probably have stage 4 water restrictions next month because of the horrible drought. I'm only allowed to water from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on two days a week now... stage 4 means NO outside watering at all...


Anyone else dealing with this? My family depends on what I grow each summer... like... a LOT

I'm so sorry to hear this. It seems crazy to me that they have drought restrictions in place in March. We are still drowning in snow and stuff up here. Also, I looked up Wichita Falls on Google Maps and it has pictures of a water fall.... I'm guessing that it's more just a "fall" right now.

A classmate of mine just had an article in the NY Times on making a garden out of straw bales. There is some watering initially but then it seems to do fine on its own afterwards. Plus you can move it pretty easily, maybe even put it on a dolly or something so it can get sun / rain when the weather changes. PS I want your African Grey Parrot REALLY bad, so hope you have good security, LOL!!!! My mom had a macaw, I hated that thing, it would even bite her. When I had to "house sit", I always have her a bunch of room, not worth losing a finger. However, yours sounds like such a joy, of course that is because he is with you. I bet with someone else, like me, he would have not lived up to his full potential. So I promise I would never really steal him, just dream about having a boy like that

I still say the only reason why Maya is the way he is, is because of all the animals plus his daily TV watching and his watching the computers while we are surfing the internet.. he has learned so much while talking to the other animals and watching TV .. It just amazes me some days with the things he knows and can figure out..

they like to say that african greys are akin to a 5 year old child mentally.. I think he has surpassed that .. he's closer to college age!

He knows all the characters on his favorite TV shows.. will call them names when they do things that appear stupid.. he makes up his own songs (even though his singing is really bad). He has yelled at me to change the channel when shows come on that he hates. he has made up his own jokes (and laughs at them).. he also learns everyone's names within 10 seconds of meeting them. He knows all the different barks of all the dogs (so he knows who to yell at if they are barking).. he sympathizes with little animals if they are fussing.. he has shown so much care and compassion when I let him handle the other animals.. he will reach out very gently and pet them and talk to them in a soothing voice.
He also knows the difference between animals and people (we didn't teach him that).. he knows the different kinds of animals and when he sees one he knows what it is.

i was watching a cheesy vampire movie the other day.. in one scene they morphed into these big rat dog looking things.. Maya looked at the tv and made his coyote call when he saw them.. then pronounced them as "coyotes" since the closest thing he had seen to them was a picture of a chupacabra which my husband and i were discussing as looking like a coyote with mange (which turns out it was lol). I was surprised he remembered the picture and our discussion of it.. but it looked a lot like the rat dogs that the vampires morphed into

There are many times when we think he isn't paying attention.. but he seems to know everything that's going on even when we try to hide things from him. (he's excellent at reading body language)

hows things been this past week? only 3 weeks back in school and im already on spring break till the 2d! tho i do have husbandry durring my time off from school! that means i get to scoop poop and clean kennels for a week and try my hardest not to physicly hurt anyone for being a dumba** i alredy know im going to have one of them types on my team! and me being the flippin awesome guy that i r.... i will suck it up and drive on! i hope!

Just looking for some opinions. My husband and I are thinking of getting some birds for meat and eggs.Wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the better breeds to get. I have a few books I've been looking through but thought I would see what other folks think.

is anyone doing the Easter hatch-a-long? how are things going if you are? what did you set?

I'm in. I set OE, EE AM and a couple of AM/WL crosses. 28 total.

No one laugh but I made a chart of the breeds I am getting and their tendencies.... The higher the number the higher production or the higher the tendency to sit on eggs.

I had no clue that orpingtons were broody. Mine never went broody.

If you have ever had these breeds, can you tell me if this chart seems about right? My RIR laid really well and she laid very large eggs, but I only had one with three buff orpingtons, so i don't have much to compare to.

On another note, when I get my chicks, anyone want to help me figure out who is what?
