Hey maybe he will let you! Hunting can be great, as long as the people around you are responsible. Learning to shoot is a good thing, and not a thing to be embarrassed about! I was blessed with a basic knowledge as a child, from my parents, and then I was lucky enough to marry a man who was an IPSC competition shooter. DH has taught me a lot of what I know about pistols, as I really was only allowed to shoot and handle rifles as a kid.

You want to know what I am embarrassed about? I am still to this day afraid to shoot shotguns. My first experience with one was horrible, so I just won't shoot one now (I guess unless it was entirely necessary). I have shot so many guns for target practice (which I find relaxing and fun) but I am afraid of a 12 gauge.

There never were any opportunities when I was younger to learn about guns or gun safety, but I've always been interested in it. I don't have any hunting friends where I live, though (astoundingly, I am friends with plenty of vegans/vegetarians). I'll look into it. My dad hasn't seen the point, but I don't think he totally sees why I own chickens & turkeys, either. Maybe one day I'll get the opportunity.

My dad was a police officer and firearm safety instructor, so I learned about guns really young (education is better then ignorance you know). I myself have taught countless kids and adults gun safety and how to hunt (and fish). Teaching a young man this weekend in fact. If you were close, you could come over and I would be glad to to teach you.
I wish! I live in Harlingen, so I'm pretty far from everyone, haha! I'd love to have lessons, but I think I'll just have to settle for using a BB gun that doesn't shoot right. I hope I can find someone to teach me soon. It would be a great lesson.

I walked into the garage, they ran out the side door and tried to take everything with them that they already had laid out, including our TV.  There were several of them......hope that clears up how I can walk in on someone burglarizing our home.

I do need to become more familiar with a gun, and have considered getting a CHL.

I used to hate guns myself. But after four houses got broken in, in oir neighborhood I started looking into one. One of my neighbors walked in on them while they were robbing her place. Everyone has the right to protect themselves and their families and their property. I now own several guns and have a chl. I encourage everyone to get one the bad guys don't call ahead or email.

....the funny thing about this is that our burglar's DID call ahead! :D

Hello! I'm a bit farther south (think 45 minutes south of McAllen, haha!), but I hardly know of anyone even close by. Most of the people that own them down here are people with ranches who speak Spanish...and I don't understand, haha! So much for being Hispanic! ^_^'
My father in law works on a large ranch in Falfurrias. Lol, I do speak a little Spanish, just because I lived in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood growing up. I understand more than I can speak if that makes any sense! You definitely are in the Deep South. It stinks that no one else around you is into this. If it makes you feel better, I live in a very rural area as well, and barely know my neighbors even though we have lived here for 6 years. People just tend to keep to themselves. Luckily I have DH around most of them time or I would go insane. We are actually considering a possible move to the Hill Country just because the oilfield has overtaken our little town and it is very overcrowded right now. Then I would be even more isolated. I am a pretty simple girl though, and as long as I have my husband and the kids I am happy.
