To cure the pox, just isolate the bird, rub some Vicks VapoRub (this is for cough, you can buy at drug store) over their face. This will stop the pox from spreading to their eyes. Give it 1-2 weeks and the bird will get over the pox. Don't peel the scales, just let it fall off by itself.

The pox is not transferred to human so I don't think this will affect your food consumption. Just make sure it is cooked.[/quote

My chickens got aviary pox once. The vet told me to keep them from getting stressed, keep things clean and add food high in vit. C. They all survived and should never get it again.

I gave them tomatoes for the vit.C.

Good Morning Fellow Texans!

Sounds like someone had an exciting night last night!!  My excitement was when my husband and I walked into the turkey coop to get it ready for turkeys. DH says, 'I don't think we should be in here right now' and touched my arm.  I started backing up (couldn't believe I listened to him...) and was looking to see what he saw.  We had been hunting rats.  Out from under the feeder box was a skunk!!

I have an African Wildcat that someone found as a young kitten in the desert in Saudi Arabia. Domestic cats are descended from African Wildcats but are a separate species. A lot of the Saudi street cats are close crosses with the African Wildcat that is found in the deserts just outside of the towns and villages. He is a most unusual cat. As a kitten, he had no inflection in his voice. He had only one call, a deep one-tone "rrrooww" like a tom cat. No other sounds other than a purr. It was an odd sound to come out of a little kitten. As he grew, he learned from the other cats to use inflection in his voice. He's such a neat cat. He is huge, weighing 18 or 19 pounds when he is the proper weight.

That is a beautiful cat. Does it bother your chickens?

No, he doesn't bother the chickens. I wouldn't have trusted him with chicks. When he was younger, he would play with the mini Dachshunds. The four of them would run in a pack down the hall. Sometimes he would play "lion" and grab a Dachshund, arms and legs wrapped around the Dachshund and then he would grab their throat and close his eyes like a big cat suffocating prey. It was scary to see--he weighed more than twice the mini Dachshunds. I always worried he would kill the little dogs, but he never hurt them at all. He never bothered the puppies. He's an amazing cat.

This is a "selfie" my 6'3" son took with the cat beside him. I don't know if it give you an idea of just how large he is. My neighbor told me he saw a bobcat at the back of his property. I told him I think he say my cat.

FYI chicken poop is squishy when fresh. Note to self-wear shoes when venturing into the backyard

I have outdoor crocs and indoor shoes so that I am not bring chicken poop in the house.
