I know this is a little late, but it took me a while to get caught up (this thread goes fast, LOL). Anyhoo, you asked about the comb on one of your new chicks a few pages back, and I didn't see where anyone responded. If it's already much redder than the others, chances are pretty high it's a roo. Maybe you'll get lucky, but I would be prepared.

Such a pretty day. I turned the soil in my future strawberry patch. It is beautiful. I wish I had already gotten them planted in the Fall, but I didn't. The chickens have been checking out my efforts. I bet they found some worms. They looked pretty busy.

Hi all!! I'm in Georgetown, North if Austin. I have newish small flock and am looking into going all out Wyandotte. Who raises, sells, breeds, etc Wyandottes in Tx and wheres the best places to purchase good blood lines?

I went to a lecture/class today of vegetable growing. It was awesome! Im so motivated now! Lol
I probably wont have a huge, planned out one this year, since we just moved and have lacked funds..lol
But i hope to start this year and really prep well this fall so i have have a beautiful full garden next year!

Wyandottes are beautiful and were a favorite in my first flock which was about 1996.

I got a nice ride in this afternoon. House got cleaned this morning so I just need to finish the laundry. Gorgeous day out today. And snow in the forecast on Tuesday. Gotta love Texas weather.

Brynn - I still have the onion sets if you get your garden in this weekend.

It doesn't take much to start a compost pile. I've started them with nothing more than a six foot length of fence zip-tied into a tube and anchored to the ground with a couple of sticks. Just start filling it up with dried leaves, grass clippings, kitchen waste and chicken poop.

It also doesn't take much to grow things like herbs and lettuce. A packet of seeds and some dirt and a coffee can with holes poked in the bottom.

If we wait until everything is perfect to start, then sometimes we never start.

I went to a garden class this morning! You should have gone, it was put on by the collin county master gardeners and was soooo helpful. And it was free..lol
I dont see my beds being ready this weekend...as we still have done NOTHING to prepare.
They said onion should be in this week or next week:/ id REALLY like some onions this year so im trying! Lol

I AM starting my herbs this weekend, and have a few packets but they talked a lot about dallas soil and after coming home and looking at mine..it needs some work! Lol Plus we still have to build our raised beds. Which can be done in an afternoon so shoukdnt be too bad.
I have a teeny compost been started! Id love to get one of the tumblers though.
How long does chicken poop need to compost before its usable? They were saying horse manure takes a year but i thought chickens were somewhere around 60 days? Im wondering if i should just start saving it now. I clean the brooder like every other day and ....theres a decent amount lol
