There are threads here on fermented feeds.

Henry is ok, he is in his garden right now. Hasn't been here all day, so I don't know exactly what is doing.

I know I said we would dance to night, but has been a long day, and my tailfeathers probably wouldn't be able to take it anyway. Has Henry made it back yet?

Thanks for the info Starfire. Like I said, it's been a long day, it has taken me an hour to type this post. I keep on falling asleep. Gotta go to bed, Gotta go to bed... I love y'all, God Bless!! Talk to y'all in the morning!! Good night!!

I just wanted to share a couple of my beautiful growing babies!

I thought I would share a photo of my three month old BCM crosses. Hen is a Black Copper Marans and father is a EE/Welsummer cross. I chose the largest eggs and the "chicks" are very very large. They are as tall as most of the roosters, but still "skinny kids".

For anyone hatching large breed chickens who want to increase their size, then I suggest you use the largest possible eggs (that are not double yolks, of course).

This photo was taken right at 12 weeks. That is a 5 gallon waterer he is drinking from:

I just got a 10 week old BCM hen and she is twice the size of my 15 week old chicks of other breeds. That is a HUGE breed of chicken!

The BCM eggs that I hatched came from a hen who, right from the beginning, laid very large eggs. The four hens I have are average size, but they came from someone who probably gets their chicks from a hatchery.

Others (at another site) have also commented on the huge eggs their pullets lay.

What other breeds of chickens do you have? How do BCM'S compare, body size, egg size, and number of eggs laid, with BR, RIR, BA, BO, and SLW hens? I am looking for heavy breed brown egg laying hens. Wanting to breed better body size, growth, egg laying skills, and broodiness into my flock. I do want some EE for fun egg color, but main goal is self sustaining dual purpose flock for personal use. This year all my ladies are pullets and I haven't started breeding them yet, but I am trying to think what breeds to add to improve my flock with. My chickens will be mongrels, but as long as they are sweet and get the job done I will be happy.

After looking into electric fencing, we are not allowed to put some up as we are considered a residential area. We are considered this because we are only a couple blocks from a school district, kids walking to school could touch the electric fence and get hurt. So I have to find another way to deter those dang dogs from digging under, and jumping over my fence to harass my animals. I am also not allowed a fence over 4 feet high in my front yard, as per Texas laws. Which blows cause dogs can easily jump that. I just wanted to add a strand of hot wire along the top rail of our chain link, along the bottom for diggers, and one along the bottom of my hubbys automatic gate as they can easily get under that, the clearance for the wheel makes an easy entry for small/medium dogs. I just can't believe this, we have zoning restrictions, are close to a school with kids supposedly walking around, yet animal control won't get these dogs and I can't put 3 lines of hot wire up to protect my flock. But I can shoot to kill these dogs. I would thing an electric fence, clearly posted with warning signs would be safer than firing a gun. But I guess common sense does not come into this.

Thanks. We have 2 donations things going for him. 1 is at any Frost bank, just as for the Henry Niño benefit fund. The other is through Razr on Facebook. I don't have the URL this second, my husband set that one up. We also did a yard sale and my daughter asked people at her high school to donate. But it is not near enough for what he needs.
Please let me know more details on the Razr thing. I'd like to help but I don't have any clothes that size. I'm sure he wouldn't be interested in my whipper snapper attire anyways! lol Anyhting I can do to help though, let me know
