I am so excited about getting the Cayuga ducklings. My hubby talked me into trying 1 male with the 2 females I'm getting this Thursday. He points out that we don't know how Howard was raised. I did some research and Cayuga drakes are a little smaller than Pekin drakes, so that's good. Some people who have them say the Cayuga drakes are calm and gentler than some other breeds. That could just be individual drakes and not a breed thing though. Also this baby will be raised with 2 females and will have 3 more older ladies that hopefully can teach him manners growing up. It would be nice to have a gentle drake for the ladies, that way I can get fertile eggs from the Cayuga females for hatching. Just because I don't want the cresteds to hatch their own eggs (i dont want to deal with the crested skull deformity and its issues) doesn't mean they can't hatch some of the Cayuga eggs and be mommies if they so desire. So let's keep our
that this baby drake turns out nicer than Howard.
As for Howard, he is a hero at my sister's right now. They have a really mean bully hen that beats up the 12 week old goslings she has. This psychotic hen has also tried to attack the sheep and nanny goat. Well, she tried her crap with Howard and he got a mouthful of tail feather off her! The crazy hen hasn't messed with the ducks or geese since. So
for Howard! Found a way to put Howard to use and do some good,.
