Try white vinegar, full strength. If this doesn't work, try bleach. Keep animals off of it for at least 24 hours, as long as it is sunny. Sun will burn off chlorine, and it will be safe.

No there is no way to keep him away from it. My house is right on Hwy 59 outside of Nacogdoches, so I can only let them out in the fenced-in back yard. Besides the traffic, my neighbor's dogs roam free (he's my landlord so I can't exactly complain) and one of them can be pretty aggressive to other dogs. So, the backyard is the only option and the ducks get to roam around and eat grass and bugs all day. I think there is actually protein in bird poo. I read an article in a farm magazine once that chicken poo had so much protein they mixed it with shredded newspaper and fed it to cattle, and they grew on it!

I would not want to eat cows that were fed chicken poo and newspaper! :sick. And no dog should be free roaming, especially an aggressive one. I'd be making an annomous phone call to report aggressive dogs on the loose. Let the landlord deal with the cops. Otherwise, if they got in my yard I'd be shooting said dogs.
