Texas

I live in south TX south of San Marcus! I have a problem. Need help badger family has moved in at my gate. Live out on county line far from town. How do I get them to leave or get them in a trap? Any help please.

I'd call Texas Park and Wildlife. Badgers are viscous, and I wouldn't mess with them myself unless it was to shoot them. Badgers have taken on bears in disputes over food, and usually win too. If a ranger won't come out and take them, you may have no choice but to kill them. I hope you can get them moved by a professional, soon.

Just a quick update. Ebony is starting to put some weight on her foot. She still limps though not as badly as before. Yesterday's water/swim therapy turned into bath time. She decided enough was enough and cleaned herself for close to an hour. Lol. I had been giving her a dog bowl for washing and her swim time everyday. Guess she decided she really needed a good scrub down. She repeated this during her evening swim time as well. She looks really clean and shiny, but guess I am not seeing something cause she wants to bath more. Lol. I also hand fed her some kale and other yummies. I make her swim for it by throwing the goodies in the pool, this way she gets treats and exercise at the same time. She is in love with her duckling companions too. Because she was making such a mess, I took her out of the brooder to dry and I find her and the babies pressed up against the separating wire trying to get to each other. Lol.

Glad to hear Ebony is doing so well. Looks like she's well on the road to recovery.

All I can do is wait and see. I have a suspicion that she will have a limp for the rest of her life. I can feel the difference between her hips. One side has a lot more muscle connected to it than the injured side. If she tore it had enough she won't walk normally again. I am already thinking of ways to accommodate her injury if this happens. She will have her own private room in the coop with the mellowest female companion in the flock. During the day she can free range with her sisters and I will keep a close eye on her to make sure she isn't picked on or injured more. Since she bonded so well with the ducklings I may continue to use her as a surrogate mother when I hatch ducklings next year. In this way is wont be lonely and can be kept away from the other ducks if they are rough with her.

She loves her swim therapy time. Every time I put her in the pool and show her greens she give me a big duck smiley face. It's adorable! She gets fresh greens from my garden and some frozen peas to give her reason to swim.

Howdy all! We are in South Texas / McAllen to be exact. We are a family looking to raise chickens for egg consumption. It's been fun reading up on the in's and out's. Hope to see some of you.

Welcome!!

Oh gosh, I should get a medal! I went to the feed store and they had a new batch of GORGEOUS chicks: lavender, black, this sweet light light buff color, almost a rosy beige. I hadn't seen any like it before! I managed to walk out with JUST the feed, thanks to hubby lol

Hopefully her limp isn't permanent. Sounds like she's in good hands. Speaking of which...how is Howard doing at your sister's place?

Your (or your husband's) will is stronger than ours. We probably would have come home with one of each.
