Texas

Belott TX, between 21 & 7 ?  No way, do you a Herb Cantu, worked for Mr. McHenry? McDavid?  Lived on a hill on the south side of the cut across road between 21 and 7, creeks and wood ducks--we had a deer lease, :)  or a sleeping lease.  rg's

Not offhand. FM 1733 is the road you are talking about. I have had this property going on five years now. Moved here Nov. last year.

There are some pretty nice bucks taken in this area. Seen a few good ones on my 63 but the big uns are pretty much nocturnal come deer season.

The western sun is the hottest as its the sun at 4pm. Most of our "really" bad storms at least in my part of Texas (east of Dallas area) come from the south/west. So my coop will have a solid wall on the southwest side, windows on the south/east, north/east and north/west sides. The roof of the coop is open hardware cloth under an open truss roof system with poly panels. There are round vent holes on the coop side that is not across from the nest boxes and not under the roosts. I use nest boxes in the coop because exterior ones can reach 220+ in our sun. While my coop is shaded under a pecan tree its just not the worth the risk of a hen getting heat stroke. Wish I could feel comfortable using them as it gives you extra s/f in the coop :|

One of the other issues with the heat is their water. - cool water is very important. Going to rig up a "cooler" with pvc and chicken nipples. That way I can drop a frozen soda bottle in the cooler of water and the cooler will keep the water from heating up.

I have a mister line that will go across the high side of the roof for July/Aug. Best coop I've seen for our weather is the Garden Coop style with added vent holes along the bottom of the walls with no prevailing storms. We use a door knob drill jig and hardware cloth.

Oh and guys guess where the "cheapest" galvanized after weld 1/2" hardware cloth is.......WayFair.com! I've shown rabbits for years so have contacts with direct vendors for wire. They were the cheapest anywhere. If you order $100 its free shipping and no tax.

Ok done talking chickens...if anyone wants free bantam cochin cockerels I have 6 gorgeous ones that need a home.

I asked because I have seen a couple of brands of the snake repellent in stores. Have never tried them. I also posted in the emergenciea/diseases/injuries and cures section and someone said DE sprinkled in and around the coop. It got into the workshop with my brooder and got tangled up in the bird net. I failed to notice it until I would have been within striking distance if it had been venomous and not half dead. We spread DE around the brooder and floor so I could see slither marks if another on got in. So hopefully it works as a repellent too.
The best thing we have found to repel snakes is moth balls. We just stick a few in some old pantyhose or plastic containers with holes in them around what we want them to stay away from, and it works. Our ladies don't bother them and the snakes stay away. Try it, you might like it!!

I know w have problems with our bird raising, but sometimes we just need to laugh...

Will try to upload this, but can't promise anything... Won't let me do it, sorry. Going to try to put it om u-tube.

We have a missing duck. She was broody, can't find her nest. Haven't seen her. She's going to pop up with a kajillion babies if she's still around. And leave some on the nest. She's lost on two fenced acres.

Do you have a bored teenager? Nothing like a bored teenager to find a lost broody! I highly recommend them. :)
