Texas

That is just too weird. Makes no sense to have someone from a different agency come out to do that - not cost effective at all. Which makes me very suspicious about what is really going on. Appreciate the info from you.
Well, he was coming up from Cleveland and apparently they do spot checks all the time for various livestock, especially when the intent is to sell. Not just chickens, pigs, goats, etc. Maybe it is a new thing.? I am new to the game, so perhaps that is it. For experimenting, and learning what I could from trail and error, and my elderly neighbor who built houses for 30 plus years, I have my mature pure bred breeds separated in various coops. It gave me a little bit of pride to get compliments on the coops. But, I do want to be a player in the hatching egg/chick game. I had contemplated many entrepreneur ventures. But, what I have learned, is if you can have a business that incorporates your hobby and passions, that don't do any harm it is easy to sleep at night and do what you love doing. I have been in a career for nearly 18 years that I absolutely hate, and the last 8 years have made me like it less. I can tell them to pound sand in 7 years, and plan on doing it with a sense of joy and satisfaction. In the mean time, setting up a business that can provide after retirement that I love doing anyway is win-win.

Hey Guys, I am near Gilmer, Texas. Just starting my flock with 4 Barred Rocks and 4 NH reds. I have 2 mutts and I am about to go out and finish my fencing to add some goats.

Just wanted to say Hi and intro myself to the state group.

When I contacted TAMU last year about NPIP they failed to discuss someone from TAHC coming out to snoop and that they would be doing it at their leisure anytime after that too. I don't have a problem with TAMU/TVMDL but a lot of the stuff with TAHC is good ole boy politics and they harass small farms to satisfy the agendas of Big Ag companies, and that is something I have issues with. I was only interested in NPIP because I've got folks from out of state that want my birds, because they are hard to find, but at this point I'm not real inclined to bother with the hassle of NPIP just to be able to ship birds out of the state.

Good morning Texas. Got the garden burn in before the winds kicked up. Hoping for a little rain today or tomorrow. The adult chickens where all happy to help out. Hope everyone has a fantastic Monday. :D

Well, there was no harassment involved. It was a pleasant friendly experience. The guy was doing a head count of the birds and looking on how I kept them secure and the environment they had to roam when let out to free range. No big deal at all, really.
