The neighbor has some ducks, so we're covered for now. The wife did say she wants a goose, though. Who knows...

Mandy, cats are notoriously hard to catch. Especially in anything but a well disguised foot trap. A hunt might be a better option if you are not experienced trappers. Dave Canterbury has some great modern trapping videos on YouTube.
Well, then get her a goose

we can hope. I
Ok girl, I've got some foot traps and I am good with a shot gun. I say party at your place when you get back and we'll get that cat!

We love it out here, we are way back on our property almost no one knows were are here. The 10 acres were totally wooded when we bought it, we cleared around 3 acres for our house and a house for my mom. The rest of the 10 acres is still wooded. I love it, but it comes with problems! Since there are woods close around we are having predators get the ducks. Right now we are fighting with a bobcat, I sure hope I win, it has gotten 5 of my 7 ducks! We have a trap out now, but so far no luck.

My ducks have a 10 x 10 enclosure that they stay in at night and free range during the day. The enclosure is a chain link dog run, you might be able to do something like that under your carport. But you will have to protect around the bottom and over the top. Predators will dig under the enclosure or climb into it from the top.

This is ours, just to give you an idea of how we did it.

Good luck!

That was my big worry. I know there are coyotes out here. I hope that you can catch your bobcat soon so that your ducks can live in peace!

My husband and I are thinking about building our own barn instead, since it will be around 400 a month for the carport, we might as well just save up and build it ourselves to the exact dimensions we desire, and we can build to the cieling to keep everyone in and critters out. Our big idea now is a 60'x30' building with 10 10'x13' open air coops. One side will have six that are breeder pens for buff brahmas and silver phoenix, and the other will have royal palm turkeys, eastern wild turkeys, and muscovy ducks. each one of the turkey and duck coops will have a 20x'20' run added onto it. And I plan to put in a 5'x10' pond for the ducks. There will be one last coop on the end for my layer flock who will be able to free range in the sheep pastures. There will also be 5 4'x13' quail pens on the side with the turkeys and ducks. Now the only thing I have to plan out is the barn for the sheep, and possibly for some equine companions. I only have 1 acre, so I am trying to plan well what I get. I wanted a cow so bad, but I don't know if we could manage it haha.

Checking in from Montgomery County, north of Houston. Trying to keep it simple on two acres. But, in four months I have accumulated two cali meat rabbit does and matching buck, two mini rex rabbit does and their buck, and one proud momma chicken with 8 chicks in tow. Add in one horse, three dogs, three kids, and one quasi-understanding wife. Yeah, simple.

Have you checked into miniature cows? I am being pulled in that direction. :)

Sounds like a LOT of work, but it is doable! But remember, even in a barn predators get in, either under the walls or they squeeze in from somewhere else. Please protect them, it is heartbreaking to loose them to predators. At least it has been for me. I raised my 5 from one day old, the cat got them all within 1 month. The last picture we got of the cat was it carrying one of the Black Swedish off. Fortunately, the bird was dead, but still, it's hard to see!! I am now down to just 2 Pekins, hoping I can keep the cat away from them, but it is a constant worry!
