I know my in-laws had what was referred to as "fussbodenheizung" in the whole house. Under foot heaters. I really liked it, I have no idea how efficient or economical they were since I didn't pay their bills. But it was a nice type of heat.
My wife thinks it weakens your immune system no facts just her experience. But I did like this type of heating.

This was in Weiher, Germany but I did love staying with my in laws just for the fact I could shower without freezing in winter.
Sounds like the under tile radiant heating. One type I saw on Holmes on Homes show, they weaved plastic tubes under the concrete floor that hot water circulates thru.

Block, beam and tile here without issues. Especially since the ground moves a lot between the moist winters and dry summers. We have winter-spring mud and summer concrete for ground but appreciate the tile. In summer it is nice because it is cool but in winter it sucks because it is cold. Cold water from the tap, in the shower, just generally cold below 50F. Regardless, the tile is nice for cleaning, I just wish it insulated better in the cold months.

I think you can do tile but have to have a strong sub-floor. Not sure???

We just built our house a year ago and have our first settling cracks in he top of one bay window. We have a pier and beam foundation and no problems with the tile floors. We had spray foam insulation put in under the floors so there isn't much fluctuation in temp. They did put in a half inch subfloor.

I am just curious Jenny as I have 3 roos to 5 Hens myself. I plan on using a spanish thing I have seen in my neighborhood to keep the guys from hurting each other or my hens by tethering them by a foot. Neither my wife or I want to give any of our animals away and fortunately our breed has a breeding season, after which they are expected to settle down their hormones. We just don't trust anyone not to eat them or try using them for other purposes.

Have you considered something similar?

No, I had not considered trying that. Luckily I have found a great home for my one rooster with @Hamiam and I think he will be much happier having his own flock and not having to compete with others!

The look I got when I told them they were getting a boyfriend.

Our flock is doing well, they seem to adjust to the ups and downs of that thermometer. Added 10 "future layers" in mid November. At 8 weeks old, two Easter Eggers are welcoming the day with cockadoodle. They are beautiful, but need a new home! Anyone need them? Located in Salado TX north of Austin.
Wish I lived closer I would love to take them. I live about 20 mins from Oklahoma in the Grayson county area.
