Texas

I'd like to know the site too, I took the place of one of you transplanted Texans. I moved here from FL and would like to get to know some of ya'll round here. I may not be able to attend all the functions, but trading, selling and buying locally is important to me.

Thanks

I too am interested in the site. Also if you have a chance go to Canton, Tx for first monday go and be amazed at the selection of poultry. The first of November there had to be a few hundred thousand people there, I saw birds for sale and trade that I had only dreamed of. In the heat of the summer there were not anywhere near the quality that was there in November and expect to see even more on the 1st of december. If you guys get a chance go, and ask where dog town is thats where you will find al the poultry and animals. If you go hope you have fun Johnny:D

Hi there, I saw nothing that was terriably dirty and no sick birds, smelly birds yes (ducks, gueneas, and geese) and only because they were in such confined places. The Texas Animal Health folks are there and inspecting in force, I have seen them close down sellers with sickly stock or have the birds removed. That said I look over any birds hard I am considering before I touch them. Last month there were the normal brown egg layers, white egg layers and easter eggers, I didnt see any true Aruaconas, Blue Andalusians, Houdans or Sumatras all of which I would like to have. I did see for sale or trade of Phoenix, Black Langshan, Crested Poultry of numerous types, frizzled Sebastopol geese, Ornamental Pheasant, Peafowl, all colors of guinea, ducks, ducks and more ducks, geese, several varities, and I think every kind of bantam under the sun. There are sveral poultry judges that sell birds there, they normlly sell out on friday or early saturday morning, they normally dont bring many birds. A friend has a spot, sells Seramas and chicks in season. I sell upon occasion my cull Seramas and brown egg pullets. But mostly I want to see what is for sell, and I buy a lot of cages (they are cheap). I hope you have a good time if you come You can park near Dogtown for 3.00 and not have to walk that far. I understand the whole place is between 300 and 400 acres. Dogtown is probaly 40 or so acres. If you like to shop it would be hard if not impossible to see the the whole selling areas in two days, my wife has never made it thru more that half in two days, I stay in dog town looking at birds and talking poultry. By the way your children will love it. Every thing you have horses, donkeys dogs, cats, and everything else thats legal (no wolfs) Ive seen it for sale. If I can help more let me know Johnny:D

Welcome 1WildHairL8tr and all transplants.

I have lived in Texas all my life and only made it to Canton a few times and that was when I was living in Dallas. Didn't have birds then though. Hope I get to make it again. I have cousins in Athens to stay with so that would make it fun too.

You can find Jessica's site through the Central Texas Pet Chicken Meetup Group, soon to become Pet Chickens of Texas

The November meeting is this Saturday at my house in San Marcos. Everyone is welcome. See above for details.

Thanks so much for the info!! I thought they only sold cats and dogs. I couldn't go if that was all they had. I already have 10 dogs!!! My hubby is out for 2 weeks at a time and if he comes home to another dog he will probably divorce me!!! But if they have those other animals I would be happy just looking at those and I can buy more of those. I really want to get some goats!!! We had some for 8 years and sold out in Dec last year. I really missed the babies being born in the spring. The man I sold them to said they all had 3 each!!!

I may not be able to leave dog town. My hubby may have to pull me out kicking and screaming!

thanks carla for putting up the information. i was in training and the information was in my favorites with my work computer.

Well Canton is great fun, my wife and I have a great time there. She looks for new canna types and I stay in dog down, bring a wagon or cart to carry your treasures.
Carla thanks for the info on Jessica site I have been trying to find the info for a while. Athens this time of year is great, and a visit to friends and relatives is always welcome around here. My sister will come in twice a year from Ca to visit andfor her trip to Canton shopping she is 76 and loves to spend the day there.
Have you head of a bird sale/auction in Iduma Tx which is helt on the 2nd sunday of each month. I recieved a notice listing the sale, the directions say 12 miles south of Killen and 7 miles north of Florence off Hwy 195 turn west on Briggs Rd at Community Baptis Church. Flyer says check in 7 am Pre sale begins after after cages have been checked in, auction at 12:00 noon. It says they sale all kinds of birds poultry and small animals, incubators and equipment.

Judymae they have a lot of goats there. Also dont forget the Emrey Tx livestock auction that is on saturday 10 am or so right on Hwy 19 they have goats there also.

Thanks Michele for thinking of me but at present I am getting every thing breeding for the April SCNA show in Baton Rouge. I have never shown any poultry but the next year I will. He can find some at Canton, Henry will have them there half grown chicks and grown birds he is a nice guy with clean health stock. A couple of years a go I gave him the birds he breeds from. Thanks folks Johnny

i went to the scna show last year in louisiana and LOVED IT! the people were so nice and the food was great not to mention the birds. they were terrific. i ended up winning a pair of silkies and some quail eggs and a sweatshirt among other things at the raffle.

i plan on being their again since it was so much fun and the site seeing was wonderful too.

i'll let the guy know about the canton sale. thanks bunches.

michele
