I am a clumsy baffoon
You don’t have to be clumsy to do that. Many years ago(before seatbelts) which most of you won’t remember, I was riding with someone who lost control and ran headfirst into an embankment totaling the car. I face planted into the windshield breaking it. Broke nose and stitches in back of head. Raccoon eyes that looked like slots in a basketball. Have a permanent crease between my eyes to remind me of it. So, I feel your pain.

My run is similar. I wrapped it in 5' of being that was on clearance last fall at TSC. I think it was marketed as deer being but it's 1" holes so works for birds as well. Then on the bottom I have a 18" skirt or chicken wire, and 2' of half inch hardwire to keep chicks and deep litter in and snakes and raccoon hands out. The top is 2" extra heavy duty netting. Other than hawks, snakes were my biggest issue last year so I've been hatching in the "winter" while the snakes are sleeping and that's working well. Another hen went broody the other day and I'll let her hatch some but I do worry that the snakes will be out and about by the time they hatch.
Got some deer netting today from TC. Salem Deer-x. 7 ft x 100 ft on sale for $13 something. Stretched around run and attached with zips. Should keep pesky birds out.
